I think I've previously seen mention of feathers being kept trimmed with a smart coat/rake. Just wondered if the gave an almost clipped look.

My cob is fine to clip and hog, but he's not so keen on his legs being clipped - he needs twitching which works as I can get the lot off in about 15/20 mins, but obviously it's not ideal. I prefer to keep him clipped out as he's a previous mite sufferer and clipping makes management much easier.

To avoid twitching every 3-4 weeks I'd rather try and alternative and save the clippers for special occasions (showing, WH etc).

So, would love to know if anyone has had any success with rakes/combs on feathers and what sort of look can be achieved. Thank you

Why don't you clip out fully using the twitch first and then do a weekly 'rake' to keep it tidy? It's when they start growing again they look tatty but they should stay shortish and tidy with a rake or scissors and comb.

Thanks Maesfen, yes he is fully clipped and hogged. He's had his last body clip for the winter, but, of course, his feathers need doing every 3-4 weeks throughoutvthe year.

I can def clip first before using a rake, just wanted to know how well they worked.
