I currently use flax, the front 2/3rds of the stable is Eva matted. I have used pellets under the flax & absorption is impressive. So I thought about doing whole bed of pellets, would be 17' x 7'. Assuming a relatively tidy mare how many bags to set up deep enough bed & likely number per week with horse being in 16 hours over winter. Pellets would probably be white horse platinum plus.

I have just finished a pallet (well what they delivered of it) of white horse pp. Nearly every damn bag burst, nightmare. Never again will I use them.

I have stable only slightly smaller than yours I think I used 10 bags to start with and top up varies weekly depending on my mares mood. She has been on box rest for 12 weeks. And I think in that time I've used 17 bags of pellets so 1-2 a week in 24/7.

I use Woodlets straight onto a concrete floor. No idea how big my stable is...certainly no bigger than a standard stable and I used probably 15 or so bags initially.
I've found that if I take out all the wet, the bedding doesn't make a "base" and my gelding gets down to concrete when he stands on it (despite it being quite deep). Instead, I have had to leave the wet in so it forms a base across the bottom. So far, since doing this, he hasn't gotten down to the concrete at all (when getting up/down/ect).

Thanks Wills_91, how long ago did you get the bags, heard the bags were improved. It sounds like pellets are effective. Have used pellet beds miscanthus and those bags were rubbish. Aquamax probably best for pellet and durable bags. 10-15 bags to start is bit ouch tho.

I semi deep litter but normally take up the bed once a week but sounds like better to take very wet only out. Issue is she's on part so not sure yard will keep it clean enough. Hmm

We're using them on the concrete too, as FC says you do need to let a base establish. However about once a month you need to dig out the worst of the wet then respread what's left.

Just a quick caveat Woodlets are only 10kg bags so 15 of those bags would be 10 of most other makes.
I put my bed down on top of EVA, just at the back of a big 12x18 stable, so his bed is about 6'x12'. It's medium thickness rather than a sprinkling, as I see the rubber as coming into play where he doesn't have a bed rather than under his bed, although it probably isn't quite as thick as it would be without the EVA. I used 4 bags and that gives a decent thickness bed so you'd probably be ok with about 10.

I use White Horse PP on a concrete floor. Stable is only 12 x 12 though. I think I put in 7 ish to start and use 1 or 2 a week. I havent had a burst bag yet and have used about 15 of them :)

I ordered them in June thus year after also being told bag quality had improved. I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding it as they really have been useless. Which is annoying cos the pellets them self's I like.

Mine in September were fine. Poor are clear. Better are partly navy blue bags

I have had 2 pallets of plat plus and 2 pallets of woodlets - first pallet of plat plus were clear plain bags and some had split but I think a forklift somewhere during transit had gone through them so not sure can blame supplier 😜 but they were very flimsy bags and wouldn't have stood up to much handling. However the latest pallet had stronger printed bags and no issue with breakage. Their Woodlets range are in v strong bags and have had no issues and threw those bags about 😊
