I read a great website that explained really clearly about using your seat to slow the horse and now I am trying to explain it to a novice and can't find the website. I am sure it was on classical dressage but I can't find it on there. Has anyone else seen it?

my instructor tells me to imagine I am tensing my stomach muscles (to give me a six pack.... LOL!!) and that seems to work, but I expect different people need different analogies (if thats the right word.....)

I've been told to pretend I'm doing a poo!! That works well with Henry, but obviously I don't follow through, lol! Heck, I'd go through a lot of underwear that way!

Have also been told to do what you do when you try and hold a fart in

LMAO.. all these people 'farting' and trying not too pooh!!!
Slightly more gentile explanation...
Imagine or try a cough... that feeling in your stomach is you using the diaphram to pull down= core muscles. So pull down there and at the same time keep the hips open and the spine stretching upwards. let the legs fall around the horse and then hold with the wrapped leg. Keep the elbows bent but imagine folding the shoulder blades down your back keeping your bottom tail bone under[ think thats the holding the fart in bit!!!

]and closed the fingers around the reins , like you are squeezing the juice out of an orange....that shold get the result you need.....
