Hi, My 22yr old mare has had a uterus infection for just over a week now, vet came out and gave antibiotics and cleared everything out. Came back on thursday and said she looked fine but on friday she had yellow gunk coming out again. Vet came back out on sat morn and did rectal exam, said uterus was still very inflamed so more antibiotics and an injection to make her come back into season to open everything up again inside. Loads of yellow gunk came out so was working but vet seems vague as to possible causes and prognosis. If she doesn't get better fairly quick with these antibiotics there doesn't appear to be much else they can do :-( Does anyone have any experience of this type of infection or any further info which can help?
Thanks

Hi. Sorry to hear you are having these problems with your girl. It sounds like she needs another wash out and stronger antibiotics. Has the mare ever foaled etc??? Has she been covered recently??

Could they use a pessary? like they do when a cow hasn't cleansed properly after calving, goes into womb. or she could end up with I hope I'm spelling this right endrometris, lots of pus in womb.

Have put it in breeding too now thanks. She never had foal and not covered. Vet did clear it all out but apparently it was trapped behind cervix which had closed up, so got injection to open it up again and let it all out. Very very disgusting!
