hi there ive just been told my mare has had uveitis in past and eye has damage. I am aware that this can get worse if more bouts occur. has anyone elses horses suffered and how have they managed it?

thanks

How long have you had her for? You can have uveitis as a one off incident so I'd really try not to worry overly at this stage.
Recurring uveitis is pretty difficult to deal with tbh but it's often controllable. I have had a very bad experience with it, however I have a friend who's horse has it and she has controlled things well for years and years now and he leads a full normal life- albeit with a permenant mask on!

My old horse had uveitis, the clouding of the eye came and went but did not really affect him very much, maybe a bit spookier on his blind side and when jumping I made sure he had extra time to see the fence, when turning for example. He started with it at 2 and 1/2 and I lost him at 33. In his later years the eye did shrink a bit and flies irritated it in the corner so I put a fly fringe on him which I felt did not restrict his limited vision as much as a mask would have done. Horses cope amazingly well with blindness in one eye and I'm sure yours will too. Good luck!
