Uvex hats - Perfexxion or Exxential? And stockists?...

Hi there

I wondered if anyone had tried both these hats and had a view on which they preferred and why. I know the Exxential is a lot cheaper than the Perfexxion, but they both look nice and I don't mind spending the extra £££ if the Perfexxion has something special to offer. I'm also struggling to find anyone near me (Surrey/West Sussex) who stocks them. Plenty of options to buy online, but I really need to try on before I buy to confirm size and which model I want.

Any ponderings most welcome. Also, are they other brands I should consider? I showjump mostly, and particularly want something vented so I have less hot hat hair!

Thanks all!!

neither of them are to a high enough safety standard for my liking, in particular not tested for crushing injuries (is horse falls on your head or foot on your head)

We tried them on at YHL but really just did not like the fit or the appearance. I know they are not the highest safety standard like Gatehouse or HS1 but they do meet the requirements for all 3 affiliated disciplines + PC. I grant you they look really flimsy though!
I think Hengest Farm has them, and Buttons in Chobham if you want to go and see.

I tried them at yhl and loved them. I'm Surrey/sussex too and will be getting mine at Olympia. The German team event in them so although they sit higher on the head than a crash hat I'm not worried. Will still have my crash hat for xc.

The perfexxion is much nicer both, quality and design. The cheaper one feels cheap. Its not lined and just looked a bit naff to be honest. I will be getting the perfexxion

Thanks so much for all your replies, much appreciated. I only just saw your replies now - thought H&H notified me when i had message responses, but apparently not...

I will check out Buttons although am also going to Olympia. Interesting points about the safety factor. I will investigate further.

TDS and Eileen Douglas stock them too.

I'm lusting after one. They are lovely. My friend bought the Exxential and loves it. The Perfexxion, IMO, has a little more too it and I'd pay the extra for it if it were me.

I bought a uvex hat at YHL and I absolutely love it. I only ride out as opposed to compete or jumping so I am quite happy with the spec. What I like most is the adjustment. If it's really cold I can wear a scarf/snood thing without it being too tight.

I have to admit that I find it quite amusing that Uvex hats are the height of fashion, they make safety eyewear and other PPE for construction sites!

They make awesome bike helmets too. I have a full face downhill helmet and is so light and comfortable. Was a bargain too at £45 - I wish I could get one of their riding helmets for that little!

Yes, but Bolle also make safety specs, and really good ski wear, just like UVEX. TBH I think its great that companies who don't specialise in horse wear make riding hats, they will bring something new to the table, as they already have done by moving us away from the velvet riding cap and bringing innovation. Thank goodness things have moved on!
