Im looking into trying a uvex hat. I have a round and deep head which mans skull caps fit me best. However these are neither the nicest looking hats and are very warm for the hot summers we have in the US. My local saddlery have started to stock the uvex hats and wondered if it might be my answer as I know they have the adjustable fitting system. Also it must be robust and safe in a fall as I have previously had a head injury and neurosurgery so am a little bit neurotic about my precious brain!! Basically I would just like to are they a easily adjustable to be a secure fit, is it comfortable and breathable, and of course safe!!

Sending you all some east coast snow for your troubles!! :D

I have one and love it. I save it for summer riding and like the fact that you can wash the lining. We have hot summers here too so yes you will sweat anyway if you work hard in the heat, it's just a less tragic thing to have on you head when it's boiling hot. It's fits my head well, but each to their own in the whole head shape issue! As far as safety is concerned they are tested and and I'm pretty sure the relevent info is on the website. I'd say go and have a try on and see how it feels. I hit the deck with mine violently last summer, I did'nt hit my head (just everthing else) but the hat stayed very snug and felt like it did it's job.

Oh and please don't send me any snow... Send the white stuff to people who like to ski!!!

I've had two models and they are a relevation. So light and comfortable and absolutely no helmet head. I love the adjustable system. If I have an awkward landing after a jump they don't move. Also is easier to fit round a bun at a competition.

I have the essential for home - I love it. It's super light and comfy, the adjustable bit at the back makes for a really snug fit without any brain ache issues!

I have a couple of models as well and really like them. They make a huge difference in the summer and it's very useful that they are adjustable (different hair styles, winter to summer).

Keep in mind though that different styles fit different types of head so make sure you try before you buy.

Thank you. I will defiantly be trying before I buy. Do you know what models I should look at for a round head? I have looked on the uvex website but it's hard to know which models I should look out for.

I tried one on as loved the look of it as a new dressage and showjumping hat however I couldnt make my mind up....it didnt seem to come down very far at the back of my head and I felt a bit exposed! That may well be as Im used to riding in a HS1 all the time though.....like you Im mega safety conscious when it comes to my head so I cant quite make my mind up over them..

Oh no :( I don't think I would like that. My operation was on the back on my head and neck so that is the most vulnerable place. I think I need to try a few different styles before I make my mind up. I love the look of the samshields as well but they are that little bit more £

They don't come down very far, that was my first thought when I tried it on, so you may not be happy. Try it on and see :) They are great for heat though, I live in Africa and I do still get sweaty hair riding at 1pm in the middle of summer, but definitely not as sweaty as before. If it isn't too hot I can ride without my hair getting wet at all. They also help somewhat in preventing me from passing out when riding in the heat.

As another option though, my sisters both have the ovation helmets which are also very lightweight and well ventilated. I personally found them a better fit than the uvex. They certainly cover a bit more of your head than the uvex (if that makes sense!) and I know they're from the US, so you may want to check those out too?

Some of the UVEX hats fit lower than others, so I wouldn't discount them all until you've tried them on. I found one design felt like it was really perched on top of my head which I didn't like, but then I tried a different model and that came down much lower and seemed to fit the shape of my head more :)

Thank you, I think I have seen them in the tack shop. I will give them a try. I never had this heat issue back home in England. Never gets warm enough :)

Thanks. I will try and find somewhere that stocks a few different models so I can try on as many as I can

Just been checking the specific model names. I found the perfexxion to be really shallow and it felt very perched (I gave it to my friend who says it fits her fine though!), whereas I now have the Uvex suxxeed active and that fits me much better as it comes down far enough. Personally, I think they're wonderful hats! I feel really safe in mine (and I need to be careful as recovering from a brain haemorrhage!) and I love how the dial at the back actually allows you to make sure the fit is snug. I bought it originally to only wear in the summer (was going to carry on wearing my Champion Ventair in the winter), but I love how light it is that I'm now wearing it all year!

Thank you so much. Really appreciate your help. I will give them all at google

I find the Perfexxion fit me better and I have an oval shape hear. The Suxxeed I didn't get on with that well (if anyone wants it I have one I have never used, original tags on and everything but I don't like second hand hat sales as loads of people lie - however if you trust me that I have never worn it and never had a fall in it, it's yours! You'd have to promise it's not for sale though please!). I found it too tight on the forehead and too wide on the sides, so it may be more suited for round headed people.

They also come with different size inserts that are interchangeable so that may help a bit with a hat that needs a small adjustment to fit.

I have a very oval head and had a Uvex, but found it a bit too round for me and never felt really safe with it, so for a round head it could be ideal.

I've now got a Casco Passion and it fits my oval head perfectly (so probably one to avoid for you!).
