I knew someone once who had bought her stable mats somewhere in Surrey. They were grey, and sort of foam-like. Terribly light but tough. She said they were less expensive than rubber ones too. Does anyone know where to get these or have a manufacturer's name?

Thanks!

Hi, this may or may not help!? I had some that sound very much like the ones you describe and they were technically cattle mats I think. Got them from a place in Kent that specialised in Agricultural things, they were about £35 each i believe, located just near Seal near Sevenoaks, they may deliver or there may be an agricultural merchant nearer to you. I got rid of them in the end as my new boy is so wet I needed a sealed rubber floor as got fed up lifting them daily but friends have used them with great success as they are light and can be lifted up but not too light that they move around. Hope that helps a little

You don't mean the 7' x 3 1/2' (approx) wall mats do you?? I have know people to use then on the floor, with varying success!!! Frosburys @ Worplesdon (nr Guildford) do them. They are very cheap.

I had the ones from Fosburys.... they were ok but dont think they would last forever.... moved easily as so light.. and absorbed a bit of wee so were smelly.

I didnt have them under the bed though, it was just to fill a gap where the bed wasnt.

Eventually we lined our chicken run with them..... big mistake.... chucks ate through them!!!

Could have been Fieldguard - http://www.fieldguard.com/matting_guide.html

They're in Surrey and do two thicknesses of EVA mats - the 3/4" ones are plenty thick and warm enough unless you want to go down the NO bedding option. They're very light and they DO wear well - should last at LEAST 10 years!

I have the 3/4" ones in about 8 stables and the thicker ones in 5 - they are VERY light - you can lift all the mats, hose them and the box down and relay them in under 45 minutes without noticing the effort!

I think it was me that posted about them in another thread. I got them from frosburys in guildford, think they were £15 each and I prefer them to my proper rubber mats.

Thanks everyone, Frosburys it is!

Is this the right address etc?

Also, when I get some, I'm guessing a plastic shavings fork with rounded ends?!

I have half a bed of straw on top of them and muck out with a future fork which is just a normal plastic shavings fork. If you get the angle right it doesn't catch on the mats but I suppose one of the rubber mat forks with rounded ends would be better.
