This will be interesting....we've had the teeth/back/worming convo, so lets add vaccinating to it and see what fireworks that sets off......

thought i'd put it in poll form coz we can get a proper idea of what happens then....

Worm - yes

Teeth - I had done when I bought her. Which was a good thing as it seemed no one else had bothered. The insides of her cheeks were bleeding open sores and she was packing food into the side of her cheeks to stop it hurting so much when she ate.

Back - I got it checked, there wasn't anything wrong. Which just goes to prove that you can go around being ridden complelty upside down in a standing martingale for 8 years with no effect at all.

Vaccinations - I restarted flu and tet.

Yes wormed every 12 weeks
Teeth are done every year for TB every six months for old guys
Back was checked when I bought her cosof the way she moved
Jabs are done when are due

Wormed following a program that I found on the 'net.
Teeth every 6 to 9 months.
Vaccs flu & tet up to date.
Don't bother with back unless there's a prob.
Saddle - when needed but fairly often.

i suppose id better answer my own question!

Worming - yes, normally regular but have lapsed this time

Teeth - approx once every 2-3 years, or if there's a problem
Back - never
Vaccinations & Tetanus - always, when due.

on the V&T note - i just assumed that everybody did it (i guess some of you guys experienced similar surprise when i said i rarely had teeth done). i had, however, forgotten my aunts horse, whose death i spoke about on here last week....he was 26, and had never once been vaccinated or tet jabbed; she just didnt believe in it, and he never once had the vet out in his whole life......

personally, i would always have it done, tho quite why i feel differently about this to the dentist issue, im not sure.

Both of mine are wormed. Both due in a couple of weeks.
Flint Flu/tet just done,Gypsy's having to start again as had been very overdue, had 1st tet got tll 18th October days till 2nd tet jab due,

Do you practise long distance reiki?

All of the above I do.....teeth once a yr, back person as required but at least 3-4 times/yr, the yard worms all horses there, his jabs (flu and tet) are always kept up to date.

Vacc and tet - yes, as I can't compete at some venues without.

Worm - according to 10-weekly worm count results, plus tape and encysted redworm in the autumn.

Back - equine sports massage every 6 weeks. Well worth the money as she spots problems before they really develop.

Teeth - every six months.

Ticked yes to everything except worming. I don't worm as I do regular worm counts (apart from Tapeworm of course, but I couldn't think which to tick for a moment

You forgot eye check! I have a real thing about this.

Horses are all vaccinated for tetanus, rabies and west nile virus, teeth and eyes checked at the same time.

i have a wall planner for all these things!

frankie has a back woman because he had an accident a while ago and sometimes he gets lame behind, something to do with his (bit behind his saddle - sacrilic or something??

). she comes out when required, and when he's lame she'll come out every other week so he has a massge! alright for some

This month my horses have had:
Farrier - as they do every month
Wormer (I have a strict routine): Sept = Tapeworm time!
Physio - checked them all over
Saddler: twice, and both getting new saddles
crazy.gif

Dentist: Came this morning, as he does every 6 months. Next appointment is already made!
Next booking is for the vet for Star's jabs...

All in all, quite a lot of bills for one month

but I literally can't sleep at night otherwise. They look after me on board, I owe them the very best care in return
smile.gif

Worming - every three months, my boy gets done with the rest of the liveries/RS horses
Teeth - every six months as he has a cannal in his mouth that needs to be cleaned out regularly or it would get infected. If he didn't have tis, once a year.
Saddler/back person - whenever I feel he needs it, saddle usually checked every year or so if he hasn't told me to do it before hand!

I no'd the back checking as all mine are retired and spend their time filling their bellies
smile.gif
Everything else is done faithfully and they also have blood taken yearly for the infectious anaemia test (Coggin). If theres an outbreak of rhinoP then they have that vac too. All of this includes Paolino the pony and Doodles the donkey. M.

replied yes to all above...

also saddle checked regularly too...

teeth every 6 months

tet every 2 yrs

wormed every 31st march and 1st october

back as and when required

Vacs - Tet always, flu from 2yos. Anything that isnt racing (broodmares) doesnt get flu as waste of time.
Worming - x4 a year, any new horse thoroughly wormed (x3 days Guard then Pramox).
Teeth - Check them regularly myself, get them done when needs be.
Back - Checked when first coming into work, then before each run. As well as if an inkling of a problem.

Teeth, 6 monthly
worming - worm counted
back - I would if there was a problem
vacs and tet -- No, I dont agree with it and I use homeopathy. My horse is still enjoying being ridden at 30.

None of my horses are vaccinated for anything, none of the cats or dogs are either.

Teeth are done every 12 months.

Wormed every 8 weeks (or 12 if Equest) without fail.

Back only checked if something is wrong.

wormed every 12 weeks.
Farrier as and when (he has tough little feet)
jabs : no. He wasnt ever done before we got him, and he's still standing.
Tetanus: nope, same as above. But I intend on getting him done at some point
blush.gif

Back: would only ever get it done if I felt something was amiss, then i'd go via my vet first.
dentist: he's a native who eats grass and hay. I get mine done yearly unless I feel something is wrong, and again, get my vet out first. Ponio is due round about now.

Both mine have flu and tetanus as advised by the vet.

Both horses are on a three year worming plan which I devised from information on the internet. I have made up my own plan which is on the feed room wall and I worm them on the right date and then mark it off with military precision!

I get my comp horse's back checked about once per year, or more often if I feel something is wrong. His teeth are done every six months.

The companion pony has never had his back checked. His teeth were checked a couple of years ago but haven't needed anything doing to them. I will pobably get them checked next time the EDT is out to do comp horse.

vac 1 , other is allergic so doesnt get it
both tet
both worm
both get whole body checked twice a year
both get teeth twice a year
