Just wondering what you would do if told the horse you have bought has no vaccination certificate?

I know for a fact that she has had all her vaccinations done (a week before I moved her to her new yard, on my request and cost!), but obviously the new yard wants a copy of her vac. cert. which according to the previous owner, she doesn't have.

Is this odd? If I were to call the vet who was out last week to do her, would he make a new one for me with the most recent lot on?

I would be wondering what the old owner was up to tbh. Contact the vet and ask if he actually did the vaccination.

I suspect that you willhave to assume this vaccination is the first in the series of three and take it from there.

Surely you have the horses passport? The vaccination records should be in there.

Gosh, you lot were all super quick to reply- thanks!

The other issue is that she also only just applied for her passport recently. Long story short is that she belonged to the yard owner who didn't really like her much and had other horses she favoured! Hence she'd never bothered with the passport etc as she was staying on her estate and it was her yard she was on so lived by her own set of rules!

I was riding her to keep her ticking over. I then moved house and was offered her at a good price so decided to buy her and take her with me. Hence having to push the YO to apply for passport, get vaccs up to date etc.

Will give the vet a call. I believe that he was out and she had the vaccs, just would like it to be recorded somewhere for my new yard's peace of mind! They'll think I'm telling stories! I'm not, honest!

If you contact the vet who did the vaccination they will have a record and will be able to backdate them on the passport. If you cant do this im afraid you have to start again.

I was told my horse had all his vaccinations when I bought him, the last one wasnt marked on his passport. I bought him anyway, contacted the vet who did it and they had no record so I had to start all over again

Thanks, looks like this is the way forward. Fingers crossed he will have records and be able to add them to the passport and I won't need to start from scratch. Pah, nothing to do with horses is ever simple, is it?

How ironic though that a couple of months back she made a big fuss to all the livery owners about needing passports and vacc certs up to date and shown to her....!!!

If you are going to compete your horse you will need to start from the begining as the vet probably only gave your horse a booster. If you just hack then just get your vet to supply and complete a vacination card and then get your horse re-vacinated every 9 month - a year and keep a record of it. It is also goood practice to keep a record of your horses worming history including the wormer used and the date wormed.
