Just been looking at my horses vaccination cards and to my horror my dates aren't right.

I got my first pony vaccinated in january 2002 with a follow up jab at the start of march which is fine (with Duvaxyn), but her next jab was 12 months later. At the time I thought this was right as this is my first horse I had ever had vaccinated, i was quite young, and the vet didn't say any different. The next jab was 13 months later, again, at the time I knew no better and again the vet said nothing and the next two years I have continued with yearly jabs. I am now led to believe by friends that she should have had a third booster jab and follow up jabs should have been no more than 12 months apart. So why did my vet never say this? Why has he let me carry on vaccinating her every year because now I will have to start them over?

My other two horses started their vaccines in july 2002, with a 2nd jab in august yet their next jab is over nine months later which again I am led to believe is too far apart so again invalid?! But she has had annual jabs for the last 3 years with the vet saying nothing?!

Now I am looking at starting all three horses jabs all over again at expense. Should the vet have told me they were wrong, would have saved me alot of bloody money!

As I have stated in previous posts ,your horse may be covered ,vets say that the vac. is made to give cover much longer than the competition rules state but if you compete in riding club especially they will have to start all over again. If you have them just for your horses health then ask your vets opinion.
We have just had to start one again because before we had him ,he was given his 3rd one a few days late. We never checked but he was spun at riding club check

for riding club you're definitely gonna need to start all over again. the correct program is:
1st vacc, then 21-92 days, then 2nd vacc, then 150-215 days, then 3rd vacc then yearly boosters within 365 days.

I started mine again when I bought my horse. My vet did mine, then another 6 weeks later, followed by another 6 months after that then it will be yearly.
