Horse vaccinated on Thurs pm with proteqFlu, into chest muscle. Given Friday off, Saturday a schooling session in the morning. Well enough in himself both days, including sat pm.

This morning (Sunday), came in for breakfast rather slowly, looked like he was unwilling to load weight on to the heel of the near side fore. Had a good check of feet but nothing obvious and as had plans for the day left him mooching about. Tonight he was still slow and again on inspection nothing to note until I stood back looking at him (and scratching my head!) and noticed from the side his chest was a different shape to normal! Que. finding a huge swelling on the left side, where he had his jab. No wonder he can't extend his limb properly!

He's had a bute tonight, he's eating well although slightly grumpy. Will of course chat with my vet tomorrow or Tuesday depending on how he is tomorrow, but wondering if anyone has experienced reactions a few days post vaccine? I've seen heamatomas before, as well as reactions i.e. twelve hours later, but not a few days later! Wondering if it could be some kind of abscess rather than a reaction to the actual vaccine...

Thanks in advance! Apologies for any typos, on phone!!

Make vet come out tomorrow!!! Lost a very good NH chaser through a bad vaccination intio the chest.
I wont let the vet use that as a site any more as the risk is to great.

Horse much better this morning, swelling had loosened and dropped, further reduced again tonight. Stint of charging around the field at flat out gallop in the rain proves he's no longer feeling too bad! Good news is that the swelling is no hotter than his surface temperature anywhere else, hopefully indicating nothing too sinister.

Will reevaluate in the morning and go from there. Will not be letting them inject in the chest again though! Fortunately my other two have had no reactions to their jabs!
