Hi there, as well as doing 'admin'/advertising tasks for VRB (!) I also ride out with them and will be there on Sunday...is there anything I could help you with? Regards, Jenny
Oh, yes please.... I did leave a message for Paul, but not heard back from him yet, but expect he is very busy.
I have a young(ish) horse, never seen hounds but is a very sensible chap (ID !!), so was wondering if hound exercise is a good way to introduce him.
He's not hunting fit, but good for a few hours out as long as its not fast and furious all the way. He's not the fastest and we don't jump much yet.
How long does hound exercise take usually ?
What is the dress code ?
I know nothing about hound exercising and its been years since I hunted, so any advice much appreciated Jenny.
Hi Claire,
Yes its ideal for youngsters. We are using Cheshire View farm ride so all jumps are optional (and in fact all season there is a way around everything) and lots of nice small jumps, logs etc. It won't be a fast furious ride as its our first ride out, the hounds are not in peak fitness and neither are the horses, so look at it as a nice ride with hounds
We have plenty of stops along the way, and there is usually a non jumping group with us.
We are normally out for about 3 hours, and as I said it is not full pelt and we have plenty of stops.
I ride at the back on my ID mare so please come and find me, if you can arrive at the pub around 12.30 then we can be off for 1pm.
Dress code for hound exercise is neat and tidy (no need to plait, but appreciated if you and your horse and tack are clean), usually hacking jacket for hound ex and navy jacket for hunting (starts Oct).
Is there anything else you need or I can help with? Hope to see you on Sunday!
Regards, Jenny.
Thanks Jenny. It sounds ideal and Ive been round Cheshire View before, so know what to expect in terms of the area. Paul has just rung me as well.
I believe the pub is about a mile from the ride but there is plenty of parking.
Do you meet in the pub first and then collect your horses or does everyone just tend to congregate on horseback in the carpark ?
Im sure my RID will be well behaved, but might need a stiff drink before hand just in case, ha ha.
I must now try and squeeze into my tweed and more importantly try and bath the stained monster (gray, nightmare).
I will come and look for you and thanks so much for your kind advice
Claire
Hi Claire no problems at all !
Yes you can park in the pub car park, plenty of space, and yes we normally have a drink then get on the horses about 12.45 ish and mill round the car park til departure! (oh and we are normally given a port once we're on the horses before we leave!!). Then its a short hack up some lanes to where we start the ride.
Look forward to seeing you on Sunday (I'm on a big gray mare)
I am coming on Sunday with one of my horses a friend that already hunts with the bloodhounds invited me as she knows it is one of my ambitions to go. I hope to see you there I am a bit nervous so a glass of port will help nicely I think.
Great to see Lisa is also in recruiting mode!
Look forward to seeing you on Sunday, it will be a nice gentle ride, all jumps optional, lots of stops, and we always have a non jumping group at the back, I'm sure Lisa has briefed you! But if you need to know anything else please do let me know
See you Sunday!
