Hi guys I'm after some advice.....

I have a mare who has evented at PN (100) level, but this was some years ago. Her new job is a county working hunter.

Ok, now to the point! Over winter I want her to have some fun so I've been doing some sj and arena eventing. Eland was her first xc fence experience for about 3 years, she stopped at the steps and water in the 90cm class, but did both on the second attempt and went clear in the 100.

I have watched some you tube video'd of the 1.10m at vale view and it seems quite technical so I have decided against doing this class, but I just wandered how technical the 85cm and 1m classes are? She isn't overly confident with water but she is honest. And hasn't done any steps down for a long period of time. I don't want to scare her by doing the 1.10 and shatter her confidence, but I figure the 85cm will be similar to Intro (90) and the 1m similar to PN (100).

If any of you lovely people could shed some light/offer advice I'd be very grateful. :)

I went and had a look in the summer and thought some of the XC fences were a bit mean. They had a number of jumps in and around the water with very tight turns and certainly of a technicality of higher than you would get on a BE course for the level.

My horse is 5 and a lady I spoke to while looking at the course agreed it was not a course for a green 5yr old.

If I go this winter I will cetainly jump smaller than I would normally SJ or BE at.

ETA: However they may now have a better course builder?

Course builder is the same there this year.
The course is the same prettty much for all classes regardless of height, its just the height and route at the water that changes (in the small class you dont have to jump in / out)

It is good fun though and if the course is walked properl its not too hard to tackle

Have a go at the smaller class first or even enter the smaller one and a bigger one on the same day which is what I do.

The course is as tight as you want to make it. Usually you can take longer routes or do circles between the XC fences if you have a green horse.

It's good fun and low key. Have a go at the small class then come back later for the 1.1m
