I'm looking at having a go at this with my boy in the near future and have never been before so am pretty much in the dark still about it all even though I know it's been around for quite a long time now! :o

I would only be entering the 70cm class for the first time, I just wondered what's involved, what type of cross country fences are in this class? Does it involve up and down steps, coffin/open ditch and jumping into/out of water? Also in worst case scenario do they let you carry on and complete it if you were Eliminated?

Anything anyone can tell me would be fab! I've seen a few photos/videos on Youtube, etc but couldn't find much.

Thanks in advance! :)

Has strps, potentially up and down, but sometimes avoided. Water is a slope in for the lower classes.

Xc fences are things like roll tops, skinnies, brushes.

Lots and lots of fences in the arenas!!! Lots to remember!!!

Jumps are full height but course is always good (if you don't forget your sat nav on the way round). You are not allowed to continue once eliminated.

Good luck and enjoy x

I wouldn't say the jumps are up to height, but it is often technical. There are 2 steps up/down depending on which way the course goes, water is usually a ramp in and out although sometimes have a jump in/out or a small step (I think, I usually enter a later class).

The xc fences are mainly the plastic jump for joy fences, with some brushes and some knock down fences. No ditch.

Lots of fences so it's always a memory test! Good luck

If you have a look on Tinderbox Sports Horse facebook page there are some videos of Tina riding round the course this year :) It looks fab :)

I've done the 70cm before and there has been a jump IN the water, not that little either, a jump 4 joy half roll top

I had that once too. Scared my five year old half to death when it moved when he didn't read it well and slid into the bottom of it. Not something I was expecting in a 70cm class, marketed as being suitable for green horses. You're not allowed to carry on once eliminated and I ended up doing the next class HC to finish on a good note.

I haven't been back so can't say if it's a regular occurrence to put BE Novice questions in 70cm classes. My established horse enjoyed doing the class, but not one I'd use for a youngster or green horse again- it's an expensive SJ class for many!

I am local to vv but haven't done the arena eventing for a few years. I had the same experience as ginageo and laroxes. Entered 70cm on a green horse and was faced with a fence in the water which I was duely eliminated at!
