It's soooooo cold
So very cold
so what have WPs got planned?

Not a lot here, surprise surprise. I managed to scramble the yard 2 out to the field this morning across the fields, the lane I normally splosh along through giant puddles has frozen solid and while Kira was game to do some skating, Darcy wisely thought better of it. Field frozen in rutted ankletwisters so... no more turnout until it thaws.
So lots of indoor hacking for Kira... actually we did some "schooling" yesterday for the first time in months and months. She might have even enjoyed herself a little bit ;)

Pic of small things enjoying a bit of sun this morning to kick off.

Weather dependent, I hope to get out to harrow the winter fields before it rains again as this wind has dried them up so nicely.
The idiot ginger has booked herself a repeat of yesterday's gymnastic exercises as she was SO dramatic about some tiny little footwork puzzles. Honestly- she will happily pop round a 1.10 course, but a 2ft bounce of planks is a horse-eating trap. She got herself in a total flap and we both ended up a sweaty mess so we will try again on Sunday!

Hackety hack hack hacking ?? if we aren't too frozen that is.
The order of the day is long low and forward. Still hand, neck out and steady laterally reaching forward. Walk trot and canter - this might get interesting as when we trotted a bit last weekend supercob had a little "ooh I can bronk from here" moment. My response was you can but you better blooming not! However we've been very restricted with the weather since so he's done nothing this week
We might push the boat out and do some walk poles in the arena (ridden or in hand).
We are getting better at low backwards steps though, and last night I managed a bit of shoulder in in hand (I'm not a ground work person this is huge for me)

Also haven't ridden since Saturday due to snow. Still loads on the ground so hope to clear school and maybe get out onto the road if possible. Horses are out 8am to 6pm so are at least moving around a bit and they've had playtime in the school early mornings before I leave to the office. By the time I get home it's too dark and frozen to do anything with them. They are sooo bored though as am I.

When do you think we'll be back to saying on this thread that we're out at BD or BE.......or taking the horses out somewhere for a lovely hack.....?

I should have been going to camp next weekend which obviously is cancelled, I kept the holiday and thought briefly oh well, there's always a farm ride, or just boxing out for a different hack. Then I remembered there's nothing and only scheduled to review on 22nd I think ?
I've lost my entire BD season as I only had winter membership. The fitness stuff I want to do to improve our eventing hasn't happened with no hires available so even if BE runs I doubt we'll go anywhere for a while.
I'd just like to be able to go riding places that aren't public rights of way and totally congested with people, dogs, mobility scooters etc etc so I can just ride without having to constantly be scanning the horizon. I understand the need for lovkdown but being able to ride safely at venues less than an hour away (or go for a lesson 5 minutes up the road) isn't going out for a jolly.

RL, that's crap about your BD membership. Was it extended by a month? I know it was for us full members.

We managed some in-hand work, a schooling session and the yard hacked Danny this week so the weather hasn't entirely scuppered us yet. However the arena is now frozen solid so let's see if we manage our planned dressage lesson on Saturday - I hope we can! Other than that, hacking tomorrow if it's not too icy on the roads.

It was so cold here last night that I took pity on Chilli and put a rug on him. He also wanted OH's bobble hat - after all the colours matched nicely!

Very little. Staying inside as much as possible and keeping warm. Probably a nice meal for valentines day with the husband so that is something to look forward to.

I haven't ridden since the Monday, it's due to be -3 tonight so I can't see me riding tonight either. Hopeful for a bit of sun and a small amount of warmer weather at the weekend to do something productive, even if it is a mooch over some poles in the school

I've not heard anything about that @Jiffy perhaps they will wait and see when (if) we can go again. Lost all of November as well with it. It is what it is, just frustrating
I've now developed a cough as well so I'm going for testing after work tonight ? I feel OK so fingers crossed its nothing, I'm just a bit doom and gloom right now

They look really toasty @HufflyPuffly, do let us know what they are like if you decide to buy them. I seem to be dealing with constantly frozen toes so I'm looking for something to keep warm

Ah I'm dithering as I've actually got to the end of the month (I get paid mid month) without over-spending and these will definitely push me into the 'over-spending' guilt, argh warm toes vs adulting!

OMG those boots are gorgeous. Please can somebody give my brain a clear so I unsee them. Although by the time they arrive it will be 10 degrees and I'll rue ordering them so will step away....

Yep managed to get out to BD twice last year for a whole year's membership and renewed recently - we're equestrians - well used to throwing good money after bad...... RC membership was also a waste of time as was my expensive hacking pass as need to box up and not essential travel. Thank goodness hadn't renewed BE...

We are currently saving like billy-o for an extension, which means there is a decent enough amount of money in said savings account... I'm sure hubby wouldn't notice a few hundred ££ going missing...

I genuinely wish I didn't know these boots existed!

ah yeah. I did one show last year for my BD membership and even that I entered the wrong class, should have done Inter1 freestyle but stupid me entered PSG. Just managed to get BD to not auto renew, not going to feel bad about them missing out on my ££ because they had a whole year out of me while K has been off games!

Been 4 weeks now since I last rode due to baby :( but tbh this week doesn't really count because I wouldn't have ridden in these temps anyway!

Been trying to do pregnancy friendly yoga/pilates to try and maintain my core/pelvic floor. I really want to bounce back asap so I can try and get to some summery clear rounds/showing before winter hits again. But suppose whilst on maternity I won't be limited to riding before/after work so winter daylight hours won't limit me as much.

I’ve got something to say for once ? We are back on track with the new mare - she came to us during the first lot of snow, yard didn’t turn out nearly enough, moved yards, more snow! So poor thing has had very little routine but she’s been an absolute angel. I’ve got my first lesson on her tomorrow and would like hack over the weekend provided the ice has gone. I’ll have to see what the tracks are like near the new yard.

I will be doing absolutely nothing this weekend unless it thaws out and DP stops coughing. If it’s nice I will hack B out on Saturday and S will take him out Sunday. DP will get some groundwork because he was a very cheeky little toad this afternoon so he is obviously feeling well enough. Oh and they have the dentist tomorrow.

Hoping things will defrost a bit and we can get some riding in! I'm on half term next week, so no doubt the weather will be awful!

I'd like to get in the school and out for a hack over the next few days, but we will see.

Working this weekend, so as usual for my on call weekends, just hoping I’ll be able to fit in a ride! I’ve been so grateful for our indoor school this week, so I’ve been able to ride once or twice (limiting factor is getting out of his stable and up the yard!). He was certainly feeling well tonight and decided he’d add a few extra moves to our polework session to spice things up ?

Our usual hacking companions have bailed (fair enough, it's bloody freezing!) and I'm not sure what to expect in terms of the road conditions around the yard but we've got an on foot companion coming out which will be nice for some company and investigation of the ground! I don't think anyone has been able to get out riding so far this week because of the weather so share horse needs his exercise. I'm not sure if he's one that can take or leave being ridden but will appreciate the moral support from the ground if he does turn out to have a bit of excess pep in his step. Walking out and trotting on more than usual is great; squealing, bucking and unrequested cantering I'm not a fan of! Sunday looks a bit milder so hopefully will ride with our usual companions then. Next week generally looks a bit better weather wise so I'll be doing some lunging 'theory' (reading and videos) which I hope will help with ground-based lessons if we're able to do those. Plus downloaded a video masterclass thing by BHS with Yogi Breisner that looks interesting :)

Our school is holding up amazingly well, really good surface. Had a fun lesson yesterday playing over poles. Finnegan is great at them as long as I don’t interfere, just like with ourvjumping ? so we practised that. Hoping to hack out over the weekend if weather and roads are ok.

Other than that am not doing much. To cold and snowy to encourage me out much!
