Valerian - who uses it & why?

As title really.

I know it's a banned substance for competing but I've never used it. I see posts from people who do use it, but I'm not really clear as to how it works on the horse, whether you feed it every day or just before stressful situations, how much you give etc. I've never seen it in our local tack shops, so wondered where people buy it.

i am using it at the minute as my boy is on field rest, i am trying to keep him calm!! its the only calmer he will eat in his feed! it gives the recommended dose on the bottle, but for the first week i gave it twice daily, now once a day.

I used it to stop the box walking. Shes coming off it soon before we go competing.

It does work and shes a calmer ride too tbh.
