You used to be able to buy those buckets of herbs which had valerian in them. Don't know if they work, although Valerian is supposed to be quite potent so I assume they do to a certain extent.

I used it many years ago along with other things for my mare who had a perforated ulcer and peritonitis. More recently, a lady on the yard with a cribber and windsucker has used it. Couldnt give a qualified opinion though.

oh I didnt know it was a banned substance my vet mentioned trying it with our horse that gets so stressed over the littlest thing particularly if he touches a pole or warming up if another horse hits one he is getting better as he will now actually go over a pole on the gorund which he used to refuse and nap and then rear, we suspect he was rapped when younger and if he was human you would think he has had a nervous breakdown and is recovering

yes I did a search on google and read a H& H article from 2003 when the ban was imposed because of the positive performance effect it can have on stressed horses, we are not going to be competing him for a while until he totally recovers so I will try to find a supply source other than human which all I can see at the moment and give it a go.

My friend uses it on her TB and swears by it. She buys it in a small bottle that she adds to her feed from Robinsons Country Leisure. They do mail order and its about £3.50. Dont know how long it lasts, its only a very small bottle.

I've got it in liquid form. Was very effective at easing a yard move for my stressy boy, kept him on it for the first month at a low dose, worked a treat. Tried that NAF Magic, didn't work at all. I imagine it is banned from competitions because it is so effective.
