I am considering selling my horse, however 2 years ago he had an operation on his hocks for OCD (he was almost 4yrs old at the time). He has been totally sound since and passed a 5 stage vetting last week. He moves very well and is jumping well. Does anyone know how much i should reduce his value by in order to sell him?

I would say it depends on what type of horse he is, his level of schooling and if the problem is likely to reduce his athletic career by causing problems in the future (for want of a better phrase).

The prognosis was very good and it has never caused him to be lame, even before his operation! He is now working at novice level dressage and is progressing quickly, his movements are so elevated it is hard to believe he ever had a problem; also he has just started jumping, he is showing huge potential and isn't troubled by his hocks at all - i was just worried that it will put perspective buyers off and therefore i would have to seriously reduce his price (hence the fact i have had a vetting done). Thanks for your comments.

I wouldnt reduce his price at all! If the OCD lesions in his hocks have been removed and he is sound and working well on the flat, passed a 5stage vetting then his hocks are fixed..

In that case if all has been "fixed" now so to speak, I don't think you should reduce his price at all, especially after he passed a vetting.

Whether you mention his history to potential purchases is up to you, but I would expect somewhere along the line potential vendors would use it as an excuse to haggle the price......after all, you can't blame anyone for trying to negotiate a better deal for themselves can you?

Good luck with your sale.
