Just in case there are any of you who have been lucky enough to escape my previous prattling on about this horse: Vanilla is my 8-year old mare, she is still quite green as only broken in at 6, I have ridden her on and off for my trainer coming up to 2 years and bought her at the end of last year. :)

She has been jumping Newcomers really well and a move up to Foxhunter has been on the cards for a while but haven't been to the right shows - everywhere we've been recently have had super strong Fox tracks so not ideal for a first go.

Went to Brook Farm on Saturday - never jumped in the new arena before. Walked the Newcomers, thought it looked really easy, came in completely switched off, had planned to show Vanilla fence 1 as I knew she'd look at it but didn't - and of course had a silly spooky stop. Then halfway round the track I had sat nav failure and went the wrong way and were promptly and embarrassingly eliminated. I just don't seem to be able to ride whatsoever unless I am a bit nervous (read ***** scared). See also report from Felbridge the other week when I fell off in between fences in the 1.05… I am the Bubbles of the horse world.

Walked the Foxhunter and thought it looked absolutely fine and built more for amateurs like myself so decided to give it a go. Bit risky since she hadn't seen half the fences (and it is spooky) due to my plonker riding in the class before but received much needed talking to from trainer and it was agreed that I'd step up my game.

Vanilla was just amazing and jumped her little socks off - Foxhunter debut done for 4 faults. Had a rail in a related distance oxer to vertical - this is always where it goes wrong as she jumps in big, has a big stride and I don't really manage to set her up. Practise, practise. I will also watch a million Meredith Michaels Beerbaum videos to inspire my lower leg which is terrible in this round.

Video here - cc welcome of course. I am working on the lower leg and trying to think about "showing the soles of my boots to the fence" but any other tips very welcome, I do get jumped out of the saddle a bit. Bit deep to the water tray and a flyer to the last but other than that I think it was reasonably ok though I never like watching myself ride.

But I am so proud of Vanilla, she has really stepped it up and is becoming so much more relaxed and rideable now, she has such scope and such a good attitude, always tries so hard for me and I just love her so much. This height is super easy for her and its only really where she starts to actually use herself, so very excited about the future.

Some pics on my Facebook - just because she is pretty - the one over the vertical isn't very good but I had to buy it because she is looking into the camera - this is very often the case with both this horse, her father and siblings - they all LOVE a camera or a mirror…

Thank you for reading. :)

she's lovely, what a super mare and a nice combination you are :)
Thank you, I'm very lucky to have her :)

Great video, looks like she found the step up easy - love the second pic too! :)
Yes, she did find it super easy, makes life so much easier to have a brave and scopey horse when you're not a very accurate ride like me. Hehe, she does love a camera...

Fantastic, well done. I love watching your rounds and you ride in such a nice forward rhythm and the horses always look like they enjoy just cantering and jumping for you :)

Thank you, what a lovely thing to say - though I think mainly because both this mare and the stallion father are actually both really lazy and are not self motivating so I'm usually booting the whole way round... :D They are better at shows and both well schooled so they do go off the leg, but you wouldn't believe how slow they can both be in the school at home...

Lovely videos.

I love the outdoor at Brook Farm.. still hate the warm up arena and so does my horse!!

Yeah it gets a bit deep and its small - I think there might be other plans for the future though. New arena is superb though!

cant see pics at work :stampsfeet:

sounds fab,well done :)
Thank you! :)

Super round well done, Saturay was my 1st time outdoors there to :)
Thanks! How did you get on, horse finding it spooky?

super round, really nicely ridden - well done :) lovely horse
Thank you, she is really lovely, very easy.

Lovely round :) She's gorgeous! How big is she?

Well... I daren't check but I'd guess 16.3hh... and Maggie is 17.2hh and you know what breed me and my sister are - Swedish Shortarse! :D

She looked like that was easy :) Nice to see the new arena being jumped in- can't wait to get mine up there to do 1/2 that height :D

Well done, super job :) she has such a pop in her, and makes it look easy, she is so clever - look forward to your next report :)

She is a stunner
Well done, at least you know its possible now so practice makes perfect

Love the second pic, she looks like she is looking right at the camera

Hey little flea, long time no see/speak/type!

What a lovely mare, she is v nice and you ride her well. Personally....well I would like to see the stride a little more contained, it gets a little fast at times, so I am afraid you are going to have to make those little legs of yours work to get stronger to get some decent half halts in the corner just to engage and slow the canter down at times....nothing major, but you asked for crit ;) She is super though and if she was a gelding I would be beating you off her with a stick!!!

Love her looking at the camera in the second picture! They look massive I'm crapping myself just reading about it  well done :)

Very impressive for a first Foxhunter :-) Nice rhythm and quietly ridden. Shows how long it is since I've jumped anything like that though.... I thought it looked pretty strong :O You going to Hickstead the year?

Lovely round, really lovely mare well ridden :) I think she knows she is pretty thou judging by that pic ;)
Her father is worse, if I take him to Patchetts he stops on the track to admire himself in the mirror in the warm up.

You are such an amazing partnership!well done!
Thank you x

Thank you, she really is clever, she is learning to sit back and prop a bit more now as well, when she has figured that out she will be even better.

I know! She is even jumping to the right side of the fence to be able to pose properly (obviously nothing to do with my lack of steering...;)

See!! I said Brook farm!!

Well done for giving it a go, she's lovely
You did! I thought it would be too strong there but it was ok - more amateur riders than pros so built accordingly.

****dy jumps a bit......as the saying goes!!!

Fab mare :)
Thank you x

Weezy! How lovely to see you - how are you getting on? Yes, I absolutely agree, the canter is a bit flat and forward, she is quite lazy and can get very spooky so I do tend to boot her round a bit too much which is when things like that rail down happen. She is very scopey so usually keeps the fences up because of that, but i agree with everything you say and it is being addressed in training.

looking good little flea :-) v brave jumping foxhunter!
Thank you!

That's the good thing about having a big horse - everything looks perfectly jumpable once I get on! But when I walk the course I always thinks everything looks big.

Thank you! I haven't competed 1.20 tracks since I was a teenager, so glad to have done it... Can't afford the first Hickstead :( Gutted, really want to go with both horses but its such a lot of money! Are you doing them all this year? how is your boy getting on?

I've pretty much had the winter off jumping. Brought him back a couple of weeks ago to get the final BN Dc before the ed of April. First outing was Felbridge where we had painful fall a year ago and hadn't been back to since. Survived that experience but no Dc. Went to Royal Leisure the next day and got the Dc... Rode much better. Then went back to Felbridge again where it all went wrong and got the big E at the second fence.... He goes soo green there its awful. Next up was the Regional Final at Golden Cross where he pulled his front shoe off over the first fence in the warm-up class so couldn't jump the main class:-( Am taking him to Felbridge tomorrow for some schooling go try and overcome his fear of the place!

Not doing the first two Hicksteads this year but hoping to do September. Will spend the money I save doing more local shows instead and finally getting him moved up to Newcomers. Problem with not jumping all winter is we came back out like a pair of newbies in the spring lol!

I know, I lose the plot entirely unless I'm out every weekend! You'll be pleased to know that I also fell off at Felbridge a few weeks ago. In between two fences. On a straight line. The horse had jumped everything clear. It was outstanding. I got many compliments. :D :D

Beautiful mare. You look a great partnership!!

Thank you! :)
