Vans Fautras

Hi

Does anyone own one of these trailers - particularly the promax or oblic2+. I tried my horse in an oblic and really liked the trailer but not convinced he wouldn't feel confined in the oblic because of his head being in a small triangular area especially when in the second stall. All my 3 are big boys 16'2 - 16'3 and one is really quite long. Is the promax roomy for big horses? There is no problem with the step up. One of my boys had a bad experience travelling and I now want to give him as much room as I can. Was looking at space treka L and the horse area is fab for him and he travelled better backwards but been really put off with the stories of wheels falling off. The fautras don't seem to come up that often - does anyone know a dealer or of any second hand ones?

Just bumping this up for you really.

If I had a trailer I would definitely go for a Fautras! You don't seem to see many for sale second hand though, I think people tend to hang onto them.

Don't know whereabouts you are but there is a dealer in Kent who does new and secondhand ones but can't think of his name!

Fautras are made near me.
All the locals have got a Fautras in some guise or other.
The owner uses his products himself, and is usually seen with a string of big horses at jumping shows.So they are designed as a true competitors trailer.
The step up is regarded by many as easier then a ramp, as you have the doors to guide the horse in. handy for loading stuff other then horses too!
If I could have afforded one, I wouldnt have hesitated.
I thought there was a dealer in Warwickshire?

I had one, I bought it from Point2Point trailers near Banbury. Not sure if they are still going but Luci was really helpful and nice, I bought my Bateson from her too

As for whether the Oblic will work for you, the only way to know is to try. My long 16.2hh WB fitted in fine and I took him up to Manchester in it no probs. I had to sell it for monetary reasons and it was bought by a fellow HHOer. She bought it for her daughter's pony and she hated it, didn't really fit comfortably! So yes, you need to try one with both horses in to be sure. I LOVED mine tho.

I'd LOVE a Fautras Oblic but absolutely no reason to sell my solid little Ifor so can't justify it (for now anyway )

SuperWibble bought one recently from a dealer, in Kent I believe. She has a very big & long ISH. Will let her know about this thread.

Try your horse in one before you buy. My horse will not load into one of these but happily plods up a ramped one.

They are made in Montcaret outside Bordeaux in France.

I have one (2 horse) and love it. IMO the step in is much better than a ramp. Ours have all just gone straight in even if they haven't trailered before, youngsters too. Lightweight for towing. I went for the front unloading ramp with the full length jockey door and the roof rack with ladders as extras, very handy for those longer journeys when you have to take hay to last for several days.

This is where I got my Fautras from. It's a nice well-made trailer, and I particuarly like the fact that the floor is polycarbonate so no chance of rotting!

I have a Promax two which I have had for 4.5 yrs. I love it and have never had a horse travel badly in it. My one lad is a big 16'3" IDX, who has been funny about trailers in the past but loves this and travels really well. I have also travelled him alongside a very large and long mare, again about 16'3" who constantly pawed with her front legs (whatever she was travelled in) and it stood up perfectly to her. I would recommend.
Having said that am now considering selling mine to buy a two horse lorry, whereabouts are you and would you possibly be interested in a used one?

I have an Oblic 3 and its fab. My ISH is 16.1 and short coupled. I don't have a front ramp so he has to load and then turn back on himself to face diagonally backwards where he then has plenty of room. My bigger longer horse wouldn't fit in as he wouldn't have the width to turn back on himself. If the trailer has the front ramp then the bigger horse would be fine.

All of mine travel really well in it, and they all manage the step up and down just fine. When I did use the stupid little rear ramp they just jumped up over it. When I take my boys out in the two horse lorry which is rear facing they don't seem to travel as well.

If I was shopping for one again I'd go with an Oblic+3 with a front ramp.

I also have an IW 511 and the Fautras tows better by far.

Hi I have a Van Fautras Olympus Voyager, I went to buy a Equitrek with Living, but my husband thought the build quality of the Van Fautras was much better, the horses travelled well in it herringbone and it was so much roomier in the living, really like a horsebox not a trailer with all the lockers etc. We slept in it at events and it was find, I did a 50mile ride the next day. It is limited in size as the horses it cant take up to 16.2hh, which is now difficult as I have a bigger one. I would buy Van Fautras again, the quality is superior to most others. very impressed no problems or snags.

I've replied to your PM and then found this thread. Just wanted to add re the step up that there IS a ramp too that you can use - it's a retractable one under the trailer that comes out very easily if you really need it.

I actually have an oblic 2 which I am going to be selling if still looking. I bought it from a dealer in 2010 had it 3 years. They are lovely trailers I just don't have use for it anymore as I sold my mare who needed this trailer as was such a bad loader and traveller but was a dream in this and loaded first time every time!
Have not advertised it yet but was looking around £4000 mark as I bought for £4950.00 and need to get as much money back on it as possible.
