Following on from my thread about my mare and myself being a bit 'stale' :( I was wondering what your average week of work your horses do hacking/schooling/lunging/jumping/lessons etc and what you do to keep the variety and both of you interested? At the moment I'm hacking 5 days and we are both bored silly. We have no school but I'm going to have to hire 1 to have a break from the norm :).

Well due to the wet weather we've been limited to road mostly for months we do have good hacking through orchards, woods and national trust land. I do hack on my own 90% of the time maybe once a week in company. If I try to canter in company she gets a bit much sets her neck and charges off . She's fine to cantering alone. We go out for about an hour 5 times a week and usually slightly longer at weekends. Walking and trotting mostly and cantering when ground allows.

Have you thought of doing some schooling on your hacks? When I hack out with a friend of mine she is constantly perfecting her dressage (probably because she doesn't have access to a school either!). So she does a lot of lateral work, as well as getting a nice outline, and she does a lot of transitions, especially within the paces as well. She's always medium trotting off without me!! It definitely keeps horse and rider interested and mentally challenged. Also, if there's a suitable bit of land where you hack then you could use it as a 'school' - we have done this on stubble fields before - wrong time of year for that though!!
