A few years back my horse had a nasty scab on his fetlock which I first treated as mud fever
After a while I called a vet out. They did a scraping and diagnoses vasculitis. It was something vasculitis though and I can't recall the first part of the name nor can I find it online!
It was caused/worsened by UV rather than mud.
I'm 99% certain he has it again. Will call the vet tomorrow as I actually still have the steroid cream we used to treat it but I'm not sure if it's still good to use.
Anyone else's horses had this?

Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis is what you want to search for, definitely linked to UV rather than mud and not easy to get rid of or manage, a search on here will bring up plenty of info.

Yes mine has! It was initially treated as mud fever which made it a lot worse, until the vet said it was vasculitis and to just keep it clean with lukewarm water, pat dry and leave well alone, ie no creams etc. It cleared up fairly quickly after that. I felt awful knowing I had been cleaning it with hibiscrub and slathering it in sudocrem thinking it was mud fever, but the two look so similar and as he is prone to mud fever I couldn't have known.

I could send you before/after pics if I knew how to post pics lol

I know this condition VERY well. Battleing this for over a year now. Vet said that my horse is the only one he has treated in which the condition has continued for such a long time! Typical!!

Does anyone know the names of the other types/forms of Vasculitis? My mare has got it but it's not the UV reactive one and i can't find much on the internet just searching for Vasculitis. Did anyone have good results treating it with Steroids etc? I seem to be able to find more people who have left well alone and let it heal by it's self successfully?
