Hi, just looking for a bit of advice regarding a horse I want to look at with view to buying. Owner advised that the horse has vasculitis but has never been lame or affected by it. I will obviously be getting the horse vetted and am hoping to have her on trial first. I have no experience of this condition but after googling I'm feeling unsure now about viewing this horse at all.

Does anyone have a horse with this condition please?

Thank you,

Have you asked if/how many times the horse had lymphangitis?

my last horse has lymphangitis once. Worst pain I’ve ever seen him in. My current has CPL (these lymph horses with be the death of me) and it’s a constant worry. Personally I’d probably walk away.

Thank you for your advice, I think I'll have to walk away.

A previous horse of mine had it and never recovered, my current horse has had it and made a full recovery. It can be trigger by lots of things - plants in fields, feed, routine - out in bright sunlight? and vaccinations so a change of home and you may not have an issue. When my pervious horse had it it wasn't that well known so we went down the route of treating medically, with no success :( When my current horse had it we focused more on removing potential triggers from her diet and keeping her covered from sunlight at all times and this seemed to work, keeping her covered/out of sunlight and no molasse or Alfa in her feed are now our normal routine and we've not had an issue since.

Personally I wouldn't see it as an issue if the horse fits the bill in the other areas.
