Having had several very good arguements put to me for using vegi oil in my diesel 4x4 I am coming around to the idea of trying it. I have been advised to start off with like 1 litre in a tank of fuel and see how we go, slowly increasing it over time to a 20/40 mix of mainly diesel.
I wondered if anyone did it here and what vehicle they use...any horra stories or pros and cons???
For information purposes I have a Terrano 2.7 diesel that is T plate...so not worth a lot and pretty crude mechanics wise.

I was thinking of doing this too. I have a peugeot 306 R reg so quite old . Think it would be a cheaper option but dont want to risk blowing the car up cos cant afford another one!

I look forward to reading the answers to this post

I would be really interested to hear about this too, although hubby would hit the roof! I have an M reg Pajero that needs to tow a trailer, so was wondering if you would loose power? And also what damage would you do to the engine?

My OH put it in my Shogun, well filtered from the chip pan!! His friend does it all the time on a larger scale, and I was rather amused, bu it works!! TBH it is just a bit of a faff doing all the filtering, and of course it is not strictly legal unless you pay the tax.!

I've used it a few times, putting in a full tank and had no problems whatsoever, but there are a few company's in our area who produce it properly. The cost saving is fab, it takes £80 to fill my tank with diesel and £50 with biofuel. I drive a Landrover Discovery S reg and have been told that they will run on anything. My OH used it in his Rover 75, but it knackered the fuel pump, so he wont be using it again, I think it depends on the vehicle's age. Saying that a local Haulege Company uses it with no problems, they won £100,000.00 on Dragons Den the other week! So it cant be that bad

I saw something on the telly about the tax side of using cooking oil as fuel. Apparently you can use 2500 litres before being liable for tax and so you should keep your receipts for the oil going in your car - not sure what happens about recycled oil from the chip pan though but doesn't your car emit a whiff of 'chip shop' as you're going up the road?
I'll be following this thread as I have a Series 1 Discovery which I've just had a new engine put in after the old one blew up and I've been waiting to see if anyone else's died onveggie oil. Also how about running a horsebox on it? - diesel at £1.10 a litre is going to scupper a lot of peoples plans for competitions next season. It used to cost me £70 to fill up my 7.5t truck -now it's about £120!

I've done a 70/30 mix in my 1981 Leyland Daf and it ran fine! They sell 20ltrs of Veggie oil in Makro for £10, don't do it every time, just run a bit through every couple of months.

Edited to add, cos its a pain putting it in a 5 litre petrol can, then putting it into the lorry - a messy job! Have seen some pumps quite cheap on ebay, might have to invest in one!!

you need to know what injection system you have. One of them tolerates veggie oil well the other throws a hissy fit and kills your car VERY quickly.and when I can remember the names of the systems I will post them..

Just spent a while going through the list of Peugeot. Very mixed responses, notably most Lucas ones not running well, some Lucas ones apparently OK. Wonder what mine is???
