Now, I've always been told "Velcro faces to back" (ie the end you pull open faces to the back of the horse) for brushing boots etc.

Today, someone at the yard said that the outside strap on double Velcro boots should face forward as its "decorational".

This makes no sense to me- the outside strap is the equivalent of the ONLY strap on single Velcro boots.

I'm pretty sure the pair of double Velcro brushing boots I had did up with the outside bit facing to the back. They would have fitted wrong the other way round, and I was never picked up on it in lessons.

If I've actually been able to make myself understandable, whose right? Have I been getting it wrong for years? Or is the other lady wrong?

Thankies!

I ALWAYS thought my double strap Velcro boots should point to the back but then my very experienced friend said they should go to the front. And actually the boot does fit better this way as it's moulded slightly better to the leg. Can you try your boots the other way, maybe will give an indication?

I'd go with the shape of the boots, some of the woof wear ones do go the 'wrong' way around with the top velcro facing forward.
The shape of the boot should be with the longer part at the back and cut away part to the front.

It's not my boots in question, someone else's. The ones I had would definitely have been on backwards if the outer piece of Velcro had faced forwards... I might have to steal her boots to conduct a highly scientific experiment :)

Interesting that it can be either...that just confuses things! :p

Thanks for the replies!

With double Velcro boots, the first straps should point to the back and the overlapping Velcro points to the front.

First strap should go towards the back, second strap towards the front.

It's like when you bandage you always go front to back so tension is against the cannon bone rather than tendons hence the first strap on brushing boots goes towards back as this strap has the tension. The top strap is only there to stop the first strap coming undone.

single strap faces to the back.
Double straps, the first or inner strap faces back, and the outer strap faces front.

Depends on the boot.

My single strap brushing boots face the back.

My double strap cliff barnsby boots , first strep faces the front and outer strap faces the back.

My double strap hi viz boots first straps face the back and my outer straps face the front - you can tell as the shape of the boot is at an angle that covers more of the fetlock .
