Velvet hat in the rain - bad idea?

Hopefully going competing today but the forecast is heavy rain and it's outside, normally I would use my velvet CO showjumper xp but I worry that a few hours of rain would completely ruin the velvet! I use it for showing and dressage as well so want to keep it in pristine condition. Would I just be better off using my less smart, faded champion instead and not even risk the velvet one?

Can you find a showercap for warm up?
Mine never seemed to suffer the occasional drenching. Let it dry naturally and give it a clean once dry.

Use whichever one is the correct standard and fit. Surprisingly if you are competing the judges will be looking at your horse/performance rather than your hat!!

Just make sure not to touch the velevet when it is wet, dry hat slowly when you get home (not on a radiator) then when completely dry hold it over a boiling kettle and give it a good brush.

Well, people have been going out in the rain in them for a fair few years now and I haven't seen any melt yet.......
