I would like to know peoples opinions on vere/clea phillips young horses?
Ive heard they are expensive but im looking for a horse to eventually go intermediate or above. And does anybody know what kind of prices they are?

Any ideas would be much appreciated :)

I dont know how much they are likely to be but a friend of mine got her stunning mare from them a few years ago. Went up to intermediate with no trouble. I bought a cracking 15hh from Clea years ago and he went on to event well at PC level.

I have heard they aren't cheap though but I would say they are worth ringing and having a chat.

Dont know if that helps at all!!

they are very very good. i had 2, years ago, both were exactly what Vere said they were (he even pointed out their slight foibles), I wasn't very experienced at all but the first went to 2* before sustaining an injury and having to be retired, and the second went to 3*. (chestnut jumping downhill in my siggy, and the lovely scopey grey.) Both were really classy horses who knew a LOT about jumping, were honest, straightforward and very forgiving of my errors, and hadn't been mucked about with on the flat - they didn't know a lot about flatwork but what they knew was right. Both were totally sane, good to hack out, etc.
I've finally worked out that what you pay the extra for is Vere's Eye for a Horse. Countless numbers of his horses have gone to top level. I've spent years trying to breed or find another horse as good as those two were. I'm not that lucky, and/or my Eye isn't 1/100th as good... As soon as I can afford it, I'll go straight back there, no question, won't waste my time and money anywhere else.
Prices? I'm well out of touch tbh, you'd best ring him and ask. At a very very rough guess (please don't quote me) I would think £12k-£15k upwards, depending on age and experience and how long it has been on the yard (just so you don't embarrass yourself if your budget's £4k for example.) Not meant to be an insult, honestly!
Hope that helps, pm me if you need to know more.

They buy a lot of horses from Ireland (especially from the Young Event Horses classes in Dublin
If you are interested in coming over to Ireland you could maybe cut out the middle man
there is a sale of proven and potential horses at Monart equestrian in November (www.monartequestrian.com) - Niall Griffin and Polly Jackson are organising it and the catalogue looks great.
PM me for more details or if you want to come over and see some horses over here....

A very good friend of mine is currently working for Vere as his stable jockey (amazing job and he's never worked so hard in his life :) )

from what he says, you get what you pay for! If the horse doesn't succeed, then it's more likely to be the rider's limitations than the horse lol!

Kerilli - your price estimates are apparently conservative :O depending on the talent!

Wow, lucky him.
Yes, I'm sure they are, but I didn't want to risk scaring anyone off! A really super young horse with oodles of talent would be worth a lot more than that, no matter whose yard it was on...

I can't add much more to the above except for that everything I have seen of theirs out hunting has been impeccably mannered and I have never heard a bad word. My family has old connections with Vere (which are not really relevant to this thread) but we looked into buying a *relatively* basic horse off him about 15 years ago and were looking around 8k as a base price then - and think how much prices have soared since!
