Has anyone got any views (good/bad) on Verm-X, and when used, does it replace a wormer?

Can it be used on a good doer/had lami in the past?

Don't know much about it, but reluctant to keep using Equest wormers as I've been hearing alot of horror stories about them lately (causing colic).

Thanks in advance everyone. :)

I'm not going to comment as when I do people paid by the company come on and post about how wonderful it is.

I'm sure it is useful to help a horse without a worm burden remain that way in some cases. But it isn't a wormer, cannot be sold as such and the advertising standards people have been involved in the past.

Talk to your vet before stopping worming. ESP the equestrian winter worming as that does encysted small red worm which is poss the most dangerous and does not show on worm counts.

I have used verm x in the past on old horses who were prone to colic, but I now use Ellen Collinsons No verms which I think is a better product, my boy has been on this for quite some time and worm counts have all come back as very low!
I am going to have a blood test for tapes soon, to see if it has been effective for them!
Depending on the result of this, I will then decide if a chemical wormer is required!

Hi - Nick Thompson MRCVS here. Lets keep this simple? Verm-X cannot be called a 'wormer' as it is a herbal product and as such is not required to be licensed for use. I'm not going to say the product is wonderful or not, I'm just going to clarify this trivial point that seems not to be understood. Verm-X contains a range of herbs and I would be very happy to discuss the product and the advantages of veterinary herbal medicine at your convenience.

How much do Verm x pay you Nick? Just so forum readers can bear that in mind when assessing how objective the advice might be...:)

Does Verm-X have anything to do with Global Herbs?

Personally wouldn't bother with either a herbal wormer or worm counting. Just discuss a worming prog with your own vet and use that. That's what I do :) On his advice, pony had Equimax in Nov, Equest in Jan and has to have an Ivermectin based wormer in 2.5 months (Eraquell or something, maybe??).

I looked at hundreds of before and after Verm-X FECs and decided that I liked the product, so I would support them. Yes, I then became a paid consultant to them as I am passionate about the logical and effective use of herbs in veterinary medicine. No I will not discuss my fees.
By the way, I'm with Verm-X today at BETA. I saw a presentation by Virbac (makers of Equimax) yesterday; Callum Blair MRCVS said that we must all use less pharmaceutical wormers. I completely agree with him.

Yes I agree we need to be careful about overworming. I don think these plans that liveries use are all that good because in a min there's gin to be an epidemic! I've only used verm x once so I can't comment on it's effectiveness but my horse loved it and it smells beautiful! I've actually heard lots off others about how it's worked for them alongside worm counts. The other thing you could do is alternate verm x with neem leaf and get counts done. Just be aware that you will still need to worm for encrusted red worm and tape with a chemical wormer unless you get blood taken.
