I have to admit this is going to be a bit gushing so stop reading now if you are easily nauseous!
When I bought Springy the intention was for a horse for me to have fun on and possibley one for my OH to ride occaisionally. Anyway 18 months in and she has surpassed al my expectations. She was really quite rude to handle and could be very nappy when ridden. But we have worked hard on her manners and she is now a joy to be around with only the very occaisional strop!
Riding wise she hacks on her own happily and will go out with any other horse without fuss. We have been progressing with our flatwork (that is mainly my ineptitude!!) and she loves jumping and has restored my confidence. I feel that we could go out to riding club level (my level!) and have a decent chance now.
But her biggest achievement is with my OH. He has started having weekly lessons on her and she has been nothing short of saintly, he was learning rising trot today on the lunge and another horse was in the school was bucking and pratting around and Springy didn't even react, she really looks after him and tries her heart out to do what he asks. When he gets a bit wobbly she slows down and makes sure he is ok.
So, sorry for the waffle - I just really feel that she is showing her true colours at last and I am so pleased at what a little star she has become.
Versatile horses seem to be a rare commodity - she is challenging and fun enough so that I enjoy her and with me is not a novice ride! And yet she will turn into the safest plod to teach a novice to ride.
Sorry, that really is quite vomit-inducing, but I am a happy little bunny with my pony today!
