Whilst walking home the usual way today, down an alley way with them staggered barriers there, me and a friend encountered some very large dollops of horse poo! The first load I nearly stepped in whilst talking to friend!!

They weren’t there this morning when I walked through so was some time between 8.40am and 3.25pm!

What gets me is, this is a public footpath which gets used a lot. The ground down there is actually really crap to be honest; it’s very stony and uneven concrete. Who would be silly enough to ride down there? Well I know who did but I’m not going to say.

I can see that it’s a short cut (to a main road

but a non-horsy member of the public wouldn’t see it this way.)

My point is, if you’re a responsible horse owner, please only ride where you’re allowed to.

If those staggered barriers are the ones I'm thinking about, wouldn't it have been a bit impossible for a horse to go down the alleyway? People might have just dumped it there because they have no where else to put it.

There are gaps either side plus they're fairly wide so it could be possible if anybody is silly enough to try. Its deff. walking horse poo. There's a pub one side, a tennis club the other both with high fences. Why would anybody dump horse poo in an alleyway??

If they had no where else to put it, they might just dump it. I've seen it before, people have just swept out trailers onto the pavement and left it there, or swept it where people are less likely to see it.

Whether they have dumped it there or not it would not surprise me in the least if a rider had used the path...I see it all the time when out walking and have seen plenty of evidence of riders knowingly riding on farmers fields 'because the gates are open and there is a wide verge...so not damaging crops'!!! Or 'well why shouldnt we...cyclists and walkers can use them' It beggars belief that riders have such a hard time from the public and drivers with those sorts of attitudes! It also spoils it for everyone else so I agree with the original post...let's try to be responsible where at all possible.

I have ridden a 15.1 heavy cob through barriers like that before, it was a bit of a squeeze though. Before everyone jumps on me for riding on a footpath, I had had a bad fall 5 minutes before and didn't want to ride a 4 year old back 40 minutes on a busy road so took footpath option (10 mins to home). Found out later I had very bad concussion and I passed out 5 mins after I got back to field so good job I didn't go on roads.

Needless to say wouldn't ride on a footpath unless in a similar situation again.
