I bought my gelding in march this year and was advised by the vet doing the vetting that he did have an old resolved abscess.
Since then it has reoccurred twice, he is now at liphook having the hoof cut back to the pedal bone. He will then be fitted with a metal plate across the cavity.
Has anyone experienced an abscess like this before? What was the recovery like and did you need to box rest until fully healed?
Also where would I stand with the vet that did his vetting as she stated that is was resolved. I'm guessing there is nothing I can do about that but doesn't hurt to ask for advice.
Thank you in advance.
