Today, I took my horse into the field on his own and jumped our new jumps. For the first time, all by myself with noone on the ground to look after me. Then after that I took horsey up the road and into one the our farmer's stubble fields and had a really good canter, all on my own.
This all may sound totally mundane but 11 months ago I fell off and broke my arm and was so scared I thought I'd never ride again. My horse was a bolshy, nappy, spooky git and I was terrified of him. He wouldn't hack, threw me off when jumping and was generally a swine. He is now my best friend.
So I wish all less-than-confident riders out there good luck in their riding, and would like to tell them all that I'm living proof that confidence does return, bit by bit!!!!
