Just had to spread the word, I haven't managed to get down there to see Dom in the last 4 weeks so I'm really excited to be going tomorrow!

For those of you who remember our story he's now been there almost ten weeks and is doing really well. He's hacking out regularly and Nic says he's thoroughly enjoying himself :) His soundness has improved and he seems happy with his shoeless hooves so I'm very optimistic. All being well I'll take some pictures and try to upload them on here if anyone's interested.

Huge thanks again to all of you who put me onto barefoot and Rockley. I'm now feeling quite positive about the future and having been the writer for the dressage judge at the local riding club this morning I'm really hoping Dom and I will be able to have a go once he's home.

Thank you all for your positive vibes for us :) x

Yey.

So glad he is one of the other lucky ones, who have luckily come sound after rehabbing barefoot - he is sooooo lucky....but then he is a cob....and he probably wasn't REALLY lame in the first place.....probably just a bad shoeing job that caused it ;)

Yes - he is lucky :p

Thanks everyone!

Oberon you're more right than you know. It was whilst he was out on loan that a different farrier to mine took his natural balance shoes off and let his toes grow long and heels collapse that it all went wrong.

Thankfully it seems that with Nic's support he's managing to get his own hooves back how he needs them. My farrier tried very hard but I guess he just needed to do it himself. :)

Ah - but what will happen when you come on here and post that he is sound and working happily again...is that people will say he is a cob, with good feet and that he probably wasn't REALLY lame in the first place....the whole barefoot thing is a fluke dontchaknow ;)

Lol, must admit I am half expecting that response from a few people anyway! Still for me, I don't care what they think. The fact is he's sound, he's happy and I'm not having to leave him out in a field bored for the next 20-30years. I'm happy I know it's worked, and I just really hope I'm up to keeping it going. :o

lol, we get that too!!

Ours are sound out of shoes but that is a fluke because of every reason under the sun, and it is luck! I would say it is luck with one of them (the easiest shoes off ever!) but both of them take much work and research, which results in wonderfully sound happy horses!

Let people think it is luck if they like, so long as you and your horse are happy. If people ever want to stop believing it is blind luck then there is alot of info out there!

Thanks ThePony, that's exactly the approach I intend to take.

I'm also very glad of all the supportive people on here as I am concerned that I'll get things wrong one way or another! I'm very lucky in that even though he's on full livery my YO has been amazing about changing things around to accommodate his needs now. Considering how tough it was to go against the grain initially I can't believe how lucky we are that the people involved in his care are being so helpful. :):)
