Been looking for a few months now for our next family member.... And I was getting quite frustrated as there don't seem to be many about! But it turns out my OH has found a litter and was keeping it as a surprise for my birthday in a few week :) :) but caved in as wanted me to be involved in choosing!
So we are off in a couple of weeks to choose a pup! Huge litter - 12 - so plenty of choice. Very very excited, collected a car crate from a friend last night, house crate coming from my mum next weekend...
Sorry, really pointless post but am ridiculously excited!

D'oh - you can tell I'm excited can't you! We are going for a Portuguese Water Dog. Bit of an 'out there' choice, considering current dog is a Rottie, but wanted something a bit smaller/lighter, but not too small, and OH and I had very different first/second choices - I wanted a black lab or Staffie, he wanted a malamute or boerboel (he's not worried about size evidently!). So had to think outside the box a bit to find one we could agree on!

Also I want to do agility which they are supposed to be pretty good at, and we are hoping to spend a lot more time on the coast from now on, hopefully will live there one day, so a water dog was a plus,

He's a pretty fab husband :) He's contacted pretty much every single KC breeder I think, and if this litter had been smaller, was talking about importing from Portugal :o! I'm sure we can manage a picture overload, the litter was only born last week so we will be going to visit in 3 or 4 weeks time hopefully!

Wow- very exciting for you! I have a Lagotto which is fairly similar type of breed I believe, Italian version and slightly smaller :D I do agility with mine which she loves (and that's an understatement ). I love her to pieces and I'm sure yours will be just as fantastic for you as mine is for me :) ENJOY and I can't wait to see pictures, lagottos are described as 'a chocolate box puppy'. Having googled pictures of the Portuguese water dog they look very 'chocolate boxy' too :D

Henbug they are gorgeous!! Never seen one before, are they very hard to find? I was looking for either a Spanish or Portuguese Water Dog and the Lagottos look quite like the Spanish in the google pictures! Do you have any photos of yours?
Waiting for an email to confirm when I can go and choose one :)

Cool! How exciting!! Don't know anything about the breed except, isn't the kind of dog that President Obama has? Looking forward to cute puppy pics!!
