Just managed to cycle back from the yard after my lesson which is quite difficult when you have wobbly legs

Had the most fantastic lesson, after REALLY struggling with canter (mostly due to me falling apart and thinking about it too much and Monty being cheeky) we had canter and so easily too. Started with lots of bending so he came really soft through the neck, did some trot on a 10m circle and changing rein after every circle and a half. Then put outside leg back and he went into canter

on the right leg too

Well done.
We've been struggling with right rein canter (I think too much too!) so think I might give that exercise a go tonight.

It's a great feeling, will probably go horribly wrong next time though but hey that's horses

We had problems on the right rein too

It definately helps doing all the serpentines and the 10m circles with changing rein after 1 and half circle in walk and trot. We found the trick with Monty is, is to concentrate on the trot, getting him really through from behind then take him by suprise and ask for canter

well done you! I am like that if George canters on the correct leg or really balanced I am so surprised that I end up trotting because I've forgotten to ride!

I have huge problems cantering on the right rein. I have had a few lunge lessons and the pony can do it perfectly well (although she does prefer to canter left and is more balanced on that rein) and so can I but when I am off the lunge cantering right is a shambles! I will also try your advice and see if it works for us. On the plus side Nelly is fantastic at striking off on the correct leg and will do a flying change without being asked (not that I have any idea how to ask

) if she does make a mistake.
