Turnt up to yard tonight and one staff member mentioned too me that my horses back legs where filled before she went to turn him out but that normally happens when been in all night standing around. Then she said when she brought him in from the field this evening (3.30-4pm) his front left leg looked a bit filled, i went to bring out of the stable so i could muck out and his tendon was at least doubled in size and was hot. I wasnt going to bother trotting him up as he was clearly very uncomfortable in walk. I have bandaged both his front legs for support over night and will go down and check on in morning(yard normally do him) and obviously ring the vet asap if no change. He's eating and drinking ok but im still overly worried that he may off done some sort of damage too his tendon? :(
But have i done the right thing by bandaging? and is there anything else i can do?
Many thanks x

I personally won't put anything on legs before a vet's seen them.

I'd just cold hose as much as possible till vet's out.

Vet for certain.

In fact I would call now as the sooner that you get the right drugs (painkillers, anti-inflammatories) the better the chance of recovery.

Don't dawdle, tendon injuries are serious.

Vet for certain, and lots of cold hosing or ice bubble booting twice a day and bandage when legs are wetland cold, that's what we do with the racehorses and box rest and anti inflammatory e.g. Bute

I agree, I would get the vet out asap, and not bandage unless the vet advises you to do it. In the mean time, cold water. I do hope it is just a blip - let us know.

With how slippy the ground is at he moment, if mine came in with a hot, swollen tendon, I'd be getting the vet out yes I'm afraid. I wouldn't bandage until you know what the definite cause is.
If you're ever not 100% what the cause is...it's worth the call out fee to get it diagnosed then and there. It could turn out to be nothing more than a minor ailment, but then at least it's peace of mind for you! :)

Definitely cold hose and some bute (pain killer and anti inflammatory) but make sure your vet sees it first as the bute might shield the injury.
Hope it's ok. X

Oh becki, blimey  I hate to say it but a hoof abcess sounds a lot easier to resolve than a tendon injury, so fingers crossed -

((((((vibes))))) sm x

Thanks guys,
Vet said hes glad we rang and he came out cause he thinks he has quite a serious infection higher up in his leg which would of been even worse tomorrow, gave him antibiotics and bute and is back out tomorrow X

And they didn't think to inform you straight away ??

Well done for getting the vet and not waiting till tomorrow, I have always found that when I have been worried about my pony in the same way you were worried about your horse and called the vet even when others have just said wait and see it has never been a wasted visit and there has always been something wrong that needed to be dealt with promptly.

Both your horse and you will sleep better now he has had the appropriate treatment. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

I hear a lot of people saying they dont want to bother the vet especially on a weekend - but please people remember that if YOU are worried, then its NEVER a bother and its NEVER unjustified to at least phone, if not have a visit.

Hope hes better in the morning and you and he are back to normal soon :)
