We have 5 ponies at our yard, owned by 3 different people. They live out all the time and they are sometimes kept in a group, and sometimes in a 2 & 3.
I don't normally have anything to do with them, but I have the day off work and was taking one of the kids hacking with me. I went to help her catch her pony and we noticed that 2 of the ponies were standing oddly in a gap in the fence. When I went to have a look someone had put electric tape in the gap to keep the 2 groups seperate and the ponies had tried to get though. One of them had got her front legs inside a loop of tape and the the other was tangled up in it behind. Thankfully they were very calm and just standing there. I couldn't release the tape and had to run to the tack room for sissors. Even when I cut them free they just stood there for a bit before realising they could move. I couldn't see any damage to either of them and they looked sound enough when they finally realised and had a charge round.
God knows how long they had been there - and how long they would have been like that if I hadn't gone in the field. They do get checked once a day, but the time can vary quite a bit and from my horse's field I wouldn't have seen there was a problem. I just can't believe how calm they both were, expecially as one of them is only 4.
I've spoken to the owners and explained what happened and like to think they won't put tape up in the gap again - but who knows.
Didn't half give me a fright when I saw them like that though.

lucky you were there and noticed that things werent right!

there are some coloured cobs next to my house, and i noticed when coming home from seeing to my lot early one morning that they hadnt moved whilst i was out...one of the foals had rolled next to a round hay bale rack and got her legs stuck, and two of the mares were lay to the back and side of her - keeping her warm i imagine - and when i climbed into the field the mares jumped up and started whinnying to me and hung over my shoulder while i pulled the foal free
