I put hay in a large trug bucket for my two shetlands who share a stable. I have hay bars for the other 2. One eats out of hers the other lifts it all out and puts in on the floor before eating

We were getting sick of demolished haynets, so now all our stables have hay bars. One horse still drags it out to dunk it in his water bucket first...but hey ho!

We use the thick large size water buckets (take 2 normal buckets of water to fill it) as it's less difficult for them to be picked up and thrown across the stable! But as one insists on keeping trying, my dad nailed in a u-shaped nail (can't think of it's proper name) into the wall behind the bucket, and we now put an elastic bungee tight round the top lip of the bucket, with both hooked ends going into the loop left by the nail in the wall. Never had another problem since!

We also invested in these heavy blue feed mangers, which are round with sloped sides (again, sorry I can't remember the brand!!) which you can fill with sand or water if you wish, but they're already quite heavy and due to the sloped sides and their shape, it's impossible for a horse to pick it up, let alone kick it round the stable.

Feel free to PM me if you need to find out where they're from, I can check them when I do evening stables
