Very muddy tack!

Interested to hear how people start to tackle very muddy tack, ie martingale caked underneath, etc etc

Do you :-

1) wait to dry

2) dunk in water

3) use warm water on a wrung out cloth and attack away?

If its really bad, is probably dunk in water, but only enough to wash the worst off, I would never 'leave to soak'!

I personally use a very worn out sponge with a green side.... squeeze out am much water as possible and rub....... find dunking it a bad idea! lol X

This is why I have a synthetic saddle after a day in the woods its plastered - so I whack some fairy liquid on it and hose pipe it!

leather bits- bridle, martingale whatever - then I would hosepipe off the caked on mud (me lazy?, never!) and then clean as normal and make sure I put loads of bees wax on it and leave to soak in

Don't like dunking. Wipe over quickly with a wet (dripping) sponge to get most off without scratching leather too much, take off residue with wrung-out sponge, pat dry with a tea towel and leave to dry/overnight before soaping.

I'm doubly lazy and have a synthetic saddle, plus biothane bridle and breastplate/martingale - they have been chucked in the washing machine in the past...! With leather though the green sponges are probably the best, along with a very quick dunk and dry off with a towel before adding soap.

the very muddy disgusting hunting tack (tho not bad this season!!) i take apart and wash in warm water wityh a bit of squeezy in it, leave apart to dry off overnight, then soap and re assemble!! if it has got soaked, and very muddy, then i wash off in soapy water, leave overnight to dry off, then treat with hammanol. then after re assembling soap as normal.

Our hunting tack was in liquid mud all day yesterday and it seemed to go on in multiple layers lol, by the time we boxed home it was like cake!! Couldn't face it last night so left it until today

I will take it to pieces and then wash it thoroughly in warm water, wipe dry with a cloth and then soap it.

I have some wonderful saddle soap called RACE, it is all natural and will not only feed the leather but also waterproof it.
