Very playful horse

Helllllppppp. My horse is so playful in the field and has so many bites on him its unreal. He is covered and thats even with a thick rug on. Last night when i brushed him some of his mane came out in my hands, - it had been ripped out - again under a thick rug. They only play and are not kicking etc but am at my witts end. I want to go to events and go for training each week and he looks such a mess. I have not got the facility to seperate him from his friend and he doesnt like it on his own. I have tried Yum Yum but doesnt seem to stop it. Has anyone got any tips on helping me pleaase. Dont really want to move the horse and anycase im sure he would soon find another friend to play with.

Hovis is the same. He spends his life looking like hes got mange as so much fur / mane / tail is usually missing. He's terrible for wanting to play with the others so its all his fault.
I tried no bite on his rugs which worked for a while and mane and tail conditioner seemed to stop them getting mouthfuls of his mane.
Failing that i'm sorry I don't have an answer - but i know how you feel!

I can sympatise too. My boy is fully clipped and his neck is looking awful from all the playing he does! His mane is now looking sparse in places and his neck is covered in lumps and bumps. He doesnt have his neck cover on all the time so I dont thinik this helps.

Last night when I brought him in and unrugged he had a lovely big bite right where the saddle flap will sit!! Argh, i hope someone gives some reasonable ideas! Sorry I have none but I feel your pain!!!

I'm guessing there is plenty for these playful horses to eat?
I find geldings are a nightmare when there is nothing to eat as all they do is play!! Mares on the other hand just get on with it!!

My only suggestion would be to put heavy duty rugs and hoods on, but by the sounds of it, this makes no difference!!

My horse does this too, although I think to a lesser extent than yours!! I don't bother with them tbh, I don't do showing so they don't really matter to me
