I have an Equi Trek Show Treka which is OK but when my gelding travels in it, it literally turns in to a sauna. I open the ramp to be met by clouds of steam. I am really worried that my boy is going to be made really ill by the heat in there. Anyone know how I can improve the ventilation for my unhappy traveller (not too expensive please :) ) ?

What ventilation have you alreadly got in it? My 3.5T is the same and had 3 windows and it's no where near enough. You should be better with a trailer though? I was told roof vents are the best because they force the air through so am having 2 of those and an extra side window put in.

I had this when travelling two when I had a spacetrekka even with all the sliding windows open (had four). Solved by putting two whirly ventilation things in the roof and didn't break the bank either. Whoever services your trailer should have them

Interesting you say that, our work box is an Equitrek and we were moving horses last week between yards and in 5 - 10 minutes they were on it they were all getting really sweaty, it was stifling in there. Having stood in the back during travelling I can categorically say there is no air flow even with all the vents/windows open.

Yes all windows are open and there is no airflow at all. The hole in the roof of the trailer achieves NOTHING! I think it is ridiculous that an expensive trailer isn't fit for purpose s they are dangerous. These trailers are expenssive and having to put extra roof vents in is not on. However I will ofcourse try those whrly vents. Do they need to be electric?

I've had mine 9 years, and can't say I've ever had that problem, even travelling youngsters for the first time. I always have all the windows open fully.

I would second an electric fan. Roof vents are all well and good until you are stuck in traffic. At least with a powered fan you can ensure air flow even in queueing traffic.

I had an equitrek and put a window in jockey door at rear and roof vent, already had 3 windows but the modifications helped pull air through.

Mine roof vents were not electric OP. I bought this trailer new (good ten years ago when they were like hens teeth) and there were not the option for roof vents now that you get get when buying new but with equitrek everything is an optional extra.... Despite their price!
I only had the sauna issue when travelling two large horses together but not in this heat!

sounds like another good reason not to buy and equitrek. I have several safety issues with them
1 what happens in an accident if the trailer tips on its side on top of the ramp
2 all my horses hate going backwards but even so they get very hot I thought it was their hatred of going backwards but it seems ventilation is an issue
3 they rot where the fiberglass hits the metal and have to be fitted with extra bits on the side worried a hoof might go through if you didnt notice

Yes we had to have one of the side panels replaced. I hadnt thought of that about only one side being accessible in a crash
Thanks
