I don't often (ever?) start a new post, but I just have to share this.

Today I went out Autumn Hunting - it was a sort of 'newcomers' meet; the first of the season, and well organised with a lot of people coming with fresh green ribbons in tails.

Anyway....... I went on my mare with............my six year old son for his first time out properly, with me mounted and not on foot. I was SO PROUD of him he rode brilliantly, he behaved impeccably, and he had a lovely time. His pony was an absolute star; didn't put a foot wrong.

So so so chuffed :D

is he very keen? will he be dragging you out of bed at 5am every Saturday?

Wow 6 year old! My son is 5 and I bet he would love that. He is a little dare devil ;) . How long has your son been riding now? Were you leading him from your horse?

You cab be a very proud Mum. I definitely would ;)

only another 5 or 6 years and you'll be having to get a bigger better faster horse to keep up with him!

Funnily enough I took my 5 year old again yesterday (for only the second time) leading her from my horse. She was a bit wobbly this time - she feels less secure with me on a horse rather than on my feet. Need to do a bit more ride and lead practise I think.

It's all brilliant though - get them brainwashed early I say, then you can carry on enjoying what you've always done, but with children in tow who hopefully will love it as much as you do. I am so chuffed that mine is really keen on eventing. It was lovely going to Badminton this year and sharing it all with her.

Thank you all. We're off again tomorrow, and Saturday if humans and equines are up to it! As far as a 6 year old boy is concerned I think there is nothing better than blatting across a field 'with the big boys'.

No, he's not on lead rein - his pony is 12hh and Rosie is 16.2, and while the pony has got a fair turn of speed I think there's some danger of me being yanked off backwards if I was holding on to a lead rein. The mounted field was about 75 but he and I managed to keep together pretty much once we'd got out of the first field.
