Well I am sure if any of you read my posts you will be aware that I had a near fatal accident 2 years ago just hacking up the road (I do go on a bit about it!). Well whilst I have got my confidence back in most things I am still a bit less confident hacking on the road not helped that my horse doesn't do much on road hacking so although he is traffic proof he tends to be a bit spookier at things like gateways!
So today unusually there was no one to hack with at the yard and I wanted to hack as we have been in the school a lot this week and I can't ride tomorrow. The tracks are all apparently very wet so I decided to brave a mostly road hack ( mainly quiet lanes although we do have to go through a village and cross an A road) which we have done a few times in company but never alone. So hi vised up we set off Max was really jumpy (probably because I was nervous), every trot he set off at a rate of knotts but did come back when asked. On this hack we met a big group of cyclists in florescent garb, some metal road sign holders and a dustbin lorry!!! But we survived and although max did leap in the air a few times nothing terrible happened.
I love my horse he is my rock and although I was terrified I know next time I will be better and at least I gave it a go
