We have now had Stevie for exactly 1 year today!! He was 12 weeks old when we got him and it struck me this morning how nicely he has matured and how being consistent with him is now reaping rewards.....

We took him to a local spot that has a huge field as well as a lake with paths around, took a frisbee and a ball and just let him off...... Lots of frisbee throwing which he loves and lots of general mooching around and exploring. We'd been there about half an hour when 2 horses came through at canter - he took off after them but I called him 3 times and he turned away and came back!!! This is the dog that we took to Badminton this year and had to take off course in the end because he barked at every horse he saw......

He was still off the lead and ran around for 5 minutes with a GSD/Rottie cross and when we decided to walk on he left her alone and came straight away!

I'm so proud of him. When I think of the time he ran off after 2 spaniels, chased a combine harvester, disappeared into hedges, etc there were plenty of times I really thought I was a rubbish dog owner...... He's still not perfect but I have so much more confidence and he is such a lovely boy and we have so much fun!

And just because we've had him a year today here's a puppy pic and a recent one......

I don't post much but I read loads and AAD has been an ongoing source of help and reassurance to me, thanks.

Well Done Stevie....but Well Done to you too! It's amazing how ridiculously proud you get when you have a dog that actually comes BACK when you call it, isn't it? :D

He's grown into a lovely chap, have you got any plans to do agility with him or anything like that?

Thank you!

We haven't got any plans for him at the moment, he's our first dog and tbh I'm glad to have got to this point with a happy, affectionate if somewhat 'special at times' dog!!! I think he would like agility though, maybe I should investigate!!

What a smart chap he has grown into :D

Is this the boy we were all speculating about, as to his make-up, apart from collie? I am happy to say I was wrong wrong wrong, I think I said Bernese or something mad! Just looks like a typical working collie/sheepdog with maybe a little bit of GSD or husky somewhere along the line.

Yep, he's the one!! As he's grown we think he is just a farm-bred collie, but he has turned into a handsome chap (not that I'm biased of course!!).

I can't believe we've had him a year!!
