very random question about cows!

Sorry if this ought to be elsewhere, but does anyone know anything about cows and bulls?! I live in the country and the field behind my house is home to a bull and his two lady friends. Last night he was SO noisy I couldn't sleep. Literally every two seconds he'd "HROOOM HROOOM!" - what is this all about?! It went on for hours and hours, and I am shattered today because of it!

Our bull usually starts to bellow if we get some walkers going through his field! But he has anger problems!!
