Dear Ms rude/sourface/miserable/arrogant rider of the grey horse who frequents the Eartham area in west sussex. Please take note that you are giving ALL riders in the area a very bad name as you simply CANNOT be bothered to say thankyou to passing traffic that makes an effort to slow down and go wide for you. Thanks for that. As the next driver you piss off may just whizz past my youngster. What the hell is wrong with you? If you can't take your hand off the reins - a nice smile helps at least TRY to acknowledge when someone has made an effort for you. Also, when a fellow rider says a polite and cheerful "good evening" to you, it is POLITE to reply - not glare at them like they are a piece of crap off your shoe. It's such a nice horsey community in this area, yet you seem determined to ruin it. Take some lessons in good manners and an anger management course please.

I honestly can't fathom why riders don't thank drivers for slowing and passing respectfully! Or for that matter, don't say hello back when a fellow rider! I was out on a ride last week, on a scruffy little standie with his matchy matchy red/black/hi-viz, he was doing so well leading the ride (A very new thing for him) so I was feeling rather chipper. We passed two women on their big, smart looking horses, no hi-viz but they looked like they were going to Olympia, they were so dressed up :O I said "Hello!" and held my hand up. They glanced at me, then looked away. A simple "Hi" would have been fine :(

However, it equally annoys me when people thank /everything/ that goes past. I will not thank someone who've revved up my horses @r$e and barged past 2 inches from my stirrup at 90mph.

Oh good lord, we have one of those around these parts... next time you see her, tell her she's dropped her pocket :D:D:D:D She'll whip round so fast she'll give herself a hernia!

Have you tried calling out a cheerful 'morning cowbag' or 'evening stroppypants' or similar. She won't know where to put herself, but you have to do it in a genuine sounding way.:D

You might not see her reaction though, as it will take a minute to get through.

Well said! Wish I could print that out and distribute it as a leaflet to some of the total ***** that hack round near me. Honestly, no wonder everyone who doesn't own horses thinks that everyone who does is rude and stuck up. Manners cost nothing.

Love it :D
Thats what I would do.
Kx

Ive got out my car before and spoken to people like her. May not win me any new friends but makes me feel better. Nothing more annoying that ignorant riders who muck it up for the rest of us polite citizens :D

yes we have one of those around my area, but its a young lady that takes out the hacks for the local riding school not only does she trot straight past you with her ride, not good when im on my youngsters she also takes her rides all over the local farmers property, there are permissive bridle paths on this particular farm but she seems to think its ok to go everywhere, despite having been asked in person not to do this and also letters sent to the riding school, she just carries on, of course what will happen is that all the local riders will be banned from this farm which provides the only good hacking in this area.

Luckerly we dont have any riders around me like that, or else i would ride straight up to her horse and say " whats your problem"
Riders that dont thank drivers is also my pet hate.

OP, if this is all you've got to worry about, I really do envy you. You can't change people and it's a waste of time getting angry about it

Last Friday I was out on a gentle hack on a friend's 28yo, but still in very good nick, lightly built mare. just coming up to a sort of t-junction of paths, I saw a big sprightly horse trotting along the left path. As the paths are narrow, I stopped my horse and waited to see where the other horse was going to go (straight across or right towards me). Next thing I know, this other horse is about 2 yards away, galloping straight at me!! No time to react and nowhere to go anyway. She shouts "Sorry!" (should I be grateful for that?), and then BAM this 6- or 700 bay knocks us both over!! By the time I staggered to my feet, this pair were a fair distance away, trotting down the path. No coming back once under control to see if I or the horse were hurt! I got away with bruising but the poor mare has torn a tendon (I think that's the equivalent of a "claquage") so is on three legs and who knows if she'll ever come right. Now THAT'S rude!

OMG:eek::eek::eek::eek: that is an inconsiderate, dangerous cowbag.
I would need to track her down and tell her the damage she has done to that poor old horse through her rude, inconsiderate, selfish and downright dangerous behaviour ..... What a bi tch

I worry because it will be some innocent rider that gets the driver this idiot has peed off whizzing past them and maybe causing an accident. She is doing local riders no favours at all and giving us a bad name - it's not you is it??!

This really annoys me as well, I speak to anyone when out riding, plus I always smile and thank courteous drivers, there really are some nobs in the horsey game, and not wearing Hi Viz.......
maybe you could suggest she buys some new batteries for her toy ......

Omg how rude is this. Jeeez even if your horse is tense/spooking/jogging and you can't take your hands off reins a smile/nod/spoken thank u never goes a miss!

My personal favourite is "Hello Mrs Grouchy Goo". I use it on my horses when they are being grumpy but it works on humans too, although they may become grumpier as a result. And yes, it is a variation on a quote from Finding Nemo! :D

There is riders like that everywhere. Most drivers around here no longer slow down for the one rider here that dosen't thank them, luckily they still slow down for everyone else.

Yup we've got a grumpasaurus up near us too. Younger lass who was asked to leave our yard just after I started going there. She moved to one down the road - still the same hacking route - I say hi and smile every time I see her but she just glares at me... you'd think it was me who asked her to leave, I just happen to go to her old yard now and had nothing to do with it (don't even know why she was asked to leave). The least she could do is smile back a bit just you know as a "hello fellow horsey person, aren't horses lovely" kind of thing :D Oh well.
Lovin the "morning cowbag" idea though ha ha! That could be fun for you to try :D
