Pheobe has had a massive operation, and has an 8inch scar on her belly from it. She came home yesterday afternoon, after being at the vets for 2days. She is incredibly skittish when she is moving, because she seems to be running away from the pain/soreness from the op. She'll bolt everywhere, to and from her bed, and woke me up 4 times last night whimpering and whining. We were told to expect this sort of behavior but is there anything else I can do for her to make her more comfy? She is on painkillers atm, her bed is next to the radiator, and she is getting all sorts of soft foods to tempt her.

Are we doing the right thing? And has anyone else's dog had a large operation, that can give any tips on after care etc...I don't want her walking around too much, but she just shoots everywhere when she's in pain from her scar, and it's hard to always stop her. How long did it take your dog to recover, if he/she have gone through something similiar?

Thank you for any words of wisdom. x

The only big op my bitch ever had was getting spayed but it tunred out badly and as a result she was in a lot of pain. I just made her bed as soft and comfy as possible, lots of sympathy and tempted her with nice food. She stayed in her bed though as she was in so much pain

From a holistic point of view, you could give her Bach's Rescue Remedy, and homeopathic remedies Arnica for bruising & Aconite for shock/anxiety/restlessness.

Poor little love

Ahhh, wish mine would stay on her bed!!! She does skitter around, then exhaust herself so she flops for 2 hrs, but I hope her rushing around doesn't prolong the healing of the scar.

Aconite sounds rather good, and will deffo do Bach - tis amazing stuff. Thanks.

If using homeopath I would use Hypericum & Calendula to aid healing Staphisagria for cut skin, Aconite for the shock & Arnica for bruising.
Also Phosporus is very good for after anesthestic's.
