Yesterday I noticed a large round disc shaped lump just up from her stifle that was flatter or indented in the middle, soft, possibly fluid filled. Reminded me of the shape of a blood platelet but about the size of a flat fist.

This evening she has lots, up over her hind quarters and down the other side. They are not hot and she does not seem to mind me prodding and poking. she is bright and chirpy and eating her dinner.

I have never seen lumps like this before. She has had no change of diet or routine, she has been out the last few days without a rug and she is not a sensitive skin type of horse.

Has anyone any ideas or seen lumps like this before?

There seems to be so much of this about this year.
Sounds like urticaria, there have been plenty of posts on this subject in the last week or so. You can bathe then in cold water or a dilute mix of bicarb of soda..they may just go down by themselves

There has been loads and loads of this around already this year. If you have acess to bute id give two bute tonight and they should be gone by the morning. (Thats what my vet advised for mine, however Bloss's turned out to be more serious, and related to something else).

Thanks for your replies and sorry for posting such a boring and already well covered topic!!

A few years ago I lost all three of my horses within 3 months and consequently I now panic at the slightest thing!

The lumps have gone this morning except the original one which has reduced. She has gone out again with no rug (lovely day) and will see what she's like this afternoon.

My boys are suffering too. Although its the 4 year old whose has suffered most.
Not sure if they are bites and hes had an allergic reaction. Mites in the straw as he rolls a lot. Heat or something else.

I am going to give him a couple of bute this evening and put some HC 45 (like E45 but with seriods)

Hopefully this will help, as hes had them now since last Thursday.

My mare has had these lumps this time of the year ever since I've had her (10 yrs). This year they are more persistant and worse than ever. My vet says it is an allergy to dust mites in the shavings. Have put her on rubber mats and hoovered the stable. Also wash rugs at 60 degrees every other day to kill the mites. She is also on Atarx an antihistamine. Spots are better but she is still getting more. There are an awful lot of people with this problem at this time of the year. Goodness knows what it is. She does seem worse when it is warm and also when her face puffs up at night with the new grass.

I havent mainly because it would mean most of his body covered in greece.

I have to say that the two bute has reduced the swellings considerably and the HC 45 cream has now dried all the spots up.
I have a much happier horse now
