Very stupid dressage question, but if someone could tell me the answer??

I'm doing a walk and trot dressage test. The test says that you have to walk for "one horses length" before returning to trot. Now I can guess roughly what one horses length is, but I'm guessing there is a true correct length and that my horse should take only a certain amount of strides, does anyone know the answer please??

i think it is about 2 or 3 strides

On my 2008 BD Intro A dressage test, it says "Between B&M, transition to walk (3-7 steps) and process in working trot". I find that amount is enough to show the walk and prepare for the trot without looking rushed.

I always aim for 5 strides in any movement asking for one horses length, hope that helps.

Yeah, even though my tests don't say "one horse's length" (it must be a new thing?), I aim for about 5 strides too- not too short, not too long.

One of the judges I write for told me 3 to 5 strides so if you go for 5 be sure to push up into trot on the 5th stride so that you don't lose marks. Good luck.
